Good question.....being prayerful some of those He might want one to walk away from....distance....we are certainly not obligated to remain in a relationship like that apart from His specific leading..

Sociopaths/psychopaths are relationally predators. If you are a normal person possessing a conscience you will eventually become prey if engaged in relationship with such people. It's only a matter of time and to what degree of damage will be done.

It's easy to walk away from these people because once they sense you are no longer available for manipulation, games, etc, they lose interest in you very quickly. In essence you are only a thing, something available to keep them amused. Don't worry about them, they'll quickly find new toys to play with.

dealing with emotional vampires is exhausting, and if they are family, can be delicate.

The main thing to remember is, "you don't have to set yourself on fire to keep someone else warm"

Our own, individual, needs have to be met before we can begin to help meet them for others.

getting away can be sticky, and we're always inclined to "give another chance".. but sometimes we need, NEED to divorce those people and remove them from our life.

It doesn't mean we hate them, or that we wish them evil. It doesn't mean we don't want the best for them, or that we don't/won't pray for them. But, self preservation, and in that our own sanity, has to be paramount.

Actually they can be incredibly good at making people believe that about them.

Thanks guys. There is an old friendship that has turned up again (imagine that) and I just don't think it would be healthy to get involved in that friendship again.
