I would put it up for safe keeping and maybe google some of the previous owners if you know them and check out their records.

I think you legally bought that gun when you bought the house. Any crime committed with the gun is either long listed as unsolved or solved long ago. I doubt it's value is much and you certainly don't want that gun for self protection. It would probably either explode when fired or seriously irritate a criminal. Take it to a gun shop or a pawn shop and get an evaluation.

fuddy duddy huh? Kidding...I just think there might be a good mystery there, an unsolved crime....or some history...for sure the gun was not hidden inside a wall to just keep it safe from the kids and easy access in case of a burglury...

We still have it. The P.I. in our church says he thinks the safety is broken. If so, he thinks we should just throw it away. I'll offer it to my SIL. He says he wants it. Probably won't involve the police.
