D'var Torah: Teaching the Torah portion in Synagogue.

I just had an amazing opportunity. I was privileged to present a short speech containing my thoughts and application taken from the weekly Torah Portion at our local synagogue. It was a tough portion too. The story of the revolt by Korah against Moses. Thankfully it went well and was well received. This represents a very rare opportunity for a Christian to teach in a Synagogue. In fact, I don't know of anyone else who has been offered such a gift. We sang together, prayed together and read the Bible together. I pray that I get such a blessing again in the future. (Actually, the Rabbi told me that I have to do it in Hebrew next time.)

The Torah portion this week is Korach, the story of rebellion against Moses. I talked about Moses falling on his face in response to rebellion. I started with my own rebellion in 1972 when I refused to go to Viet Nam to fight in a war that I felt was wrong. Is it ever right to rebel against government? Is it right or even possible to rebel against God?
Moses responded with humility and by showing that he was under God's authority. I too did something like that when I went to Bible College and became an ordained minister instead of fighting in Viet Nam. Conclusion is that serving God is better than serving any government.
In Israel, serving in the army is not optional but serving with morality and with integrity is a choice each person must make. If you want a transcript, send me a PM and I'll send it to you.
