Oh WOW! - You think we can/should discuss this in another thread?

I never knew my Father - I was born out-of-wedlock, and my Mother's parents threatened to "disown her" if she didn't "get rid of me."

Reportedly, she had a "fling" with the Principal of the school where she held her first teaching job, and when she found out she was pregnant, and that he was married, she didn't tell him she was carrying his child.

She moved away, gave birth to me, left me with some strangers, and moved back home.

After 33 years, I "found" her and we established a relationship, but she refused to tell me anything about my father except his name and that she thinks he was from North Carolina.

She was afraid I would try to find him too, and she didn't want me to be hurt, if he rejected me or refused to accept that I was his daughter.

Sorry to hijack the thread - Maybe I shouldn't have posted anything in here in the first place.

Ro, I thought your "I never knew him" was quite clear. I understood what you meant.

As for what our father's taught us, my dad taught me lots, he just didn't give me any "good advice."

My dad was an angry, money driven workaholic and a perfectionist. Doing things the "right way" meant his way... I heard him rant at my mom saying things like, "You G-damn stupid woman, can't you use some common sense??" Which meant doing things the way he would do them.... yeah. My home was fun to grow up in.

I learned how you DON'T treat your spouse and kids.

After reading Romans828 and Quest's comments all I can say is thank you Father God for your love to the orphan, the abandoned and rejected
Man rejects but God searches out the lost

So glad both of you are in the kingdom

The only real advice that I ever really remember him giving me was when I was a teenager. It basically went something like, "I don't care what you do, just don't knock anybody up."

Great words of wisdom to live by as a teenager.

My dad was more like averagely religious and difficult at times. But I was able to see Jesus in him, as if there was a bigger dad in there somewhere. He also had a demon, that I cast out of him sometime after I became a Christian. His best advice was probably that I should become a righteous man. Not quite the Christian lingo it sounds like, more like averagely religious again. A "stand up guy" or similar.

I feel priviliged to have had a dad who could have had a sticker that says "Jesus somewhere inside".
