I've decided that letting everyone know about Wells Fargo's lousy customer service is now a mission of mine.
As you all know, my husband passed away on November 4th. He had a couple of accounts at Wells Fargo, that he had had before we got married. This would include our mortgage. Unfortunately, Andy did not have a will, so everything that was in his name alone will go into probate. Here's the kicker....you have to list the monetary value of everything for the court probate proceedings. BUT I CAN'T DO THAT without Wells Fargo giving me the info on how much more is owed on the house. They are refusing to give me ANY information without some sort of official notification. Meaning I have to pay a lawyer more money to go to court and get that kind of notification. Not only will they not give me the information, the lady that I spoke to here at my local branch was simply atrocious. Here are a couple of the things she had to say to me, "We cannot give you any information on any of Andrew's accounts. If he had wanted you to have any information he would have listed you on the accounts. You'll have to get your lawyer to send the proper paperwork." and finally, "Did you think you were going to just waltz in here, and we would hand over all his information?"
To top it off, I just found out that his 401k is with Wells Fargo as well. I nicely called up, explained the situation, and they pleasantly told me how to proceed. THEN I get a call from someone saying that I needed to send them either by fax or mail a copy of the death certificate, MY driver's license, and MY social security card. Anyone else see this as a serious threat to identity theft?! I convinced them to let me give them the ss# over the phone, but I just now got another call saying that they were looking into the matter to see if that would be acceptable.
Please...whatever you do...don't bank at Wells Fargo.
