What do you remember about 9/11 2001?

Its been 15 years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the US and a lot of documentaries on it have been airing this weekend. Where were you when it happened and what were your initial thoughts?

I woke up a little before 9am EST and as was my habit I turned on the TV news. There were reports coming in of a plane hitting the World Trade Center with live feeds of the tower and interviews with witnesses who saw it happen.

I watched as they spoke of theories, pilot error, joyriding, medical emergency? Terrorism was not a common word back then and they weren't even sure what type of plane it was, most thought it was just a small private plane.

...and then it happened, live on TV, another plane clearly a large commercial passenger plane hit the second tower. It took a minute to grasp the reality of it but that was when you knew it wasn't an accident and we were under attack.

As usual, when I woke I turned on the radio.

What I heard was beyond disturbing. I called to Duane to turn on the TV to see if it was actual events. It was almost like the Orson Wells' War of the Worlds, I wasn't sure. It was so sureal it was difficult to process.

Duane confirmed that it was, indeed, what was happening. It ended up Keir didn't go to school and we spent the day listening to the news.

I was dropping off my son at the baby sitter's and I just stood in her den watching the news. Appalled, horrified, stunned, grieved, unbelieving....I still feel that way when I think about it.

Mr C woke me up to tell me. Shock and horror were what I felt. Having been through the OKC bombing, another and even much worse attack was hard to deal with.

I was on my way to teach at Bible college in Pensacola. I went to Shoney's to get something to eat, and when I walked in they had a TV hanging from the ceiling. I saw the live picture of the buildings burning, and I asked the waitress what was going on. She said that somebody had flown an airliner into the World Trade Center, and I just thought it was an accident. Then she said somebody had flown into the Pentagon too. When she said that I said to her, "Then it's not an accident" and realized it was a planned thing.

I pretty much knew right off the bat that it was terrorism.

I was working construction when my supervisor came down into the foundation of the school addition we were working on and told us that we'd better take break early because he heard on the radio that somebody had flown into the WTC.

Mine was the first response and I said (I was not very sanctified at the time) "I bet it's them (expletive) towel-heads!

    It was.
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)
