When did you get your first cell phone?
Here's a video to help you remember what kind you had:

I got my first one somewhere around '96, '97. I don't even remember who it was with because I didn't really know anything about it then. Had it awhile then let it go, then didn't get another one until 2003-2004 at some point. It was very similar to this one if not this one. I was thinking the bottom folded down, not the top folding up though. But this is probably it. Motorola Startac.

My husband had a mobile phone through his company back when we had to go through a mobile operator, so it was probably in the 80s? They refered to them as the old "XJ phones" because the numbers started with XJ. Rog's was XJ28928 ... and you had to specify what area you thought they were in for the tower. It was quite the deal to be able to get hold of him like that, but it was just for foremen. The operators only had radios. The operators only got phones about 10-12 years ago.
I got one as soon as I could (early 90s?) and we called it a "bag phone" that was mainly just in the vehicle because the battery pack for it was large and expensive and coverage was patchy.

I moved on to a smaller phone that just the bottom flipped out to answer and talk. It looked like this:

Moved on to a MUCH smaller flip phone, then another one that took pictures and accessed internet till I got an iPhone 3 free with a 3 year contract. That was about 5 or so years ago, and now I have an iPhone 5, which I love because I can FaceTime with my grand babies, where ever I am.
Rog's company got them on iphones this past year, but without data.

We currently have flip phones. They are prepaid and we usually spend $10.00 per year per phone. We first got them for emergency use, but we do use them a bit more now.
We had a phone that was about 5'' long in '95. We only had it for about 2 years. We bought it for our dd to carry as she drove across town to a Christian high school her senior year. It was in a seedy neighborhood.
