    IRS short form for 2017.
    Line 1:
How much money did you make this year?
    Line 2:
    Send it in.

You wouldn't believe how complex the taxes are in Israel. Suffice to say that more than 100% of my salary goes to pay the taxes for my wife and I. We live on her salary and my tips.
We also have to pay taxes in two countries and that includes the mandatory retirement plans for two countries. Social Security in the US and National Insurance in Israel. The tax years don't end at the same time either. We are finishing the filing of our Israeli taxes this week and should be able to file our US taxes next week. That is the earliest we have ever managed to file the US taxes. We get an automatic extension because of living in another country and we usually get it all wrapped up in August.

Having mine done tomorrow by a lady in Los Angeles.. Gotta get up early and drive down.

I despise it and I dread it every year. I think I rather take a beating

I use Turbo Tax. Mine are simple. I am done by the 2nd week of February or sooner.

I did go to the local office of a national tax preparer service and got them done as I posted above, however, a few days later I got a phone call from them saying that there was an error on the return. They filed an amended return and said that since those have to be mailed in that it could take up to 12 weeks to get my refund.

Well, its been 4 months now and for the last couple of weeks I've been calling the IRS for an update but their automated system keeps telling me that there is no record of it yet. The tax preparing company is preparing a duplicate for me to pick up today with a note attached so it kinda feels like I'm starting from scratch again.

Have any of you ever dealt with an amended return and if so, was it normally resolved in a timely manner? How long did you have to wait?

Yesterday we received two letters from the IRS billing us 21 cents more for interest on an underpayment we made. I think that is at least 42 cents in postage, plus whatever handling it takes them.

I suppose they have to do that because otherwise people would speculate about how much less they can pay on a bill and get away with it. That would cost the IRS more in the long run.
