When the canola fields are blooming, it's my favorite time of the summer!

Oklahoma is a rodeo state. We don't attend as Mr C isn't a fan, but our kids go often. In western OK especially, all small towns have a yearly rodeo. Okc is the home of the International Finals Rodeo. I went to Frontier Days in Cheyenne, Wyo. once when I was kid. It seemed really big time to me.

    Sorry for the hijack.
We'd love to go to Cheyenne's Frontier Days sometime. Rog has always wanted to go to the Pendleton Rodeo for some reason - a very historic rodeo, I believe. The international finals sounds exciting, too... Rog's sisters went to the NFR before it moved to Las Vegas. I think they went once in LV too.

We could go to a rodeo every weekend around here, too. Just about every town and city has one of some level, from college to amateur to professional. The one we go to on the hill at Lea Park isn't even in a town, but on a hillside where two rivers meet and it has a reputation of being one of the best, drawing most of the high ranking professionals, Canadian and international. It's a great time.

Thank you, A.J. I love the above posts. I keep telling my dh: There are so many wonderful places that I'd like to see. Why don't we rent out our house for a year and go travelling :) I remember when I was in northern MI with Jewel, I wanted to rent a vacation home on Lake Crystal. Dreams are free ......

Those pics from the canola fields are gorgeous. We have them here too, but they are not so big. Too many hills in between. Speaking of Jewel, when she came to see me some years ago I had warned her that our part of the country was flat and boring, and nothing like she had seen in the typical tourist pics, but on our way from the airport she said: Flat? You don't know flat until you've been to Ohio. You can lie flat on your nose and look miles and miles ahead of you. Well, I found out it was true. Anyway, Ohio was interesting, too. The variety of this world is just so amazing!

Alberta sounds great. Maybe I'll stop by and say hi if I'm in the area in the future.

We have large forested areas. There's an area farther north and west from us that's called Grand Prairie... an enormous, very flat area with few trees that is used for grain farming, where around Calgary, it's foothills, used for ranching. We have a huge oil industry (which is in an extreme downturn right now and over 100,000 ppl have lost their jobs!) We have lots of mixed farming around here, which means the farmers have various grains and cattle as well as other animals. We have huge lakes and rivers. We also have a large Bad Lands area that is well known for its dinosaur fossils.

In the north, we border the North West Territories and I've never been that far north. So that takes us almost to the land of the midnight sun and true tundra... It takes a special kind if people to live up there their whole lives.

And of course, we have severely cold weather most winters. Which is what everyone thinks of when they think of Canada.

We are 661,848 km2 (255,541 sq mi) and only have a population of about 4,200,000 ppl and I'm pretty sure over half of that lives in the 2 major cities, Edmonton (our capital) and Calgary (which has a world famous Stampede).

But I don't want to bore you with too many details. I'll just give you the wikipedia page and let you browse it if you want to. The border city I live near is Lloydminster. It's almost half way up the Alberta-Saskatchewan border.
