    China

I was just thinking about something Lively wrote in another thread. About her china that she hadn't used in forever. I was wondering if you all had formal china, and how often you use it?

This was Lively's post in the other thread:

Yes. When I got married you were supposed to pick out a china set so that people could add to it at your shower and wedding... mine's called First Love. It's yellow roses, but a very delicate pattern by a company called Paragon. Unfortunately, Paragon sold to Royal Albert and Royal Albert changed the molds so if I buy now, it's different, and they changed the shade of yellow of the roses. I was very disappointed because my set was never complete and may never be, now. I'm sure I can buy off ebay, but I just don't want to put the money into expensive china at my age.

When I was in Christian Women's Club, they did a monthly brunch... and one time they had a really special tea and asked people if they could use their china teacups and saucers... I did and unfortunately, the table mine was on collapsed and several items got broken. They replaced them, of course, but by then it was Royal Albert instead of Paragon and so some of the ones I really liked were gone forever.

I rarely use any of it... I can probably count on one hand the times I used the dinner plates or cups and saucers.... I used to use the teapot and cream and sugar and S&P a lot, but got away from it.

Here's a glimpse of mine... on this page, the teacup that's shown is Royal Albert... the pieces where the design looks darker are Royal Albert and the pieces that are a light, more delicate design are Paragon.

The teacup on this Ebay page is Paragon.

I have a china that I bought before we married, but after my mom died I use hers = so many good memories. And it's nice, too.

I don't remember the last time I used mine. I worked at a grocery store and if you spent $25 on groceries, you could buy a plate for $1.00. I had everyone I knew buy it for me. I built my china to a service for 8. I used to have it in a china cabinet, but it's long been in storage now.

Thank you....... I've always loved yellow roses for some reason and when I saw that pattern, nothing else measured up after that.

I don't remember. It's been so long since I've looked at it, I can't remember the details. I might have to take a peek over the weekend.

    This is mine:

I started a set and before I was married I found it on sale and finished it as a service for 12. I think I used it once. We never had a place to store it and we always had holiday dinners at someone else's house. About 10 years ago I gave it to my daughter. She has used it for some holiday dinners. She also has a china cabinet to display it.

AJ, your pattern is lovely. I love the roses!
