You mentioned flying into Burbank. That's in the north LA area. It's a about the same distance from SFO to Sequoia but the traffic getting out of LA sometimes can take hours.
If you have your heart set on visiting sequoia, again, I would fly into Fresno and then drive to SF.

Hey Lista, are you still planning on seeing Alcatraz too?

ok....I decided to go ahead and look at the Alcatraz tour, since they sell out ahead of times (supposedly)

Apparently they don't book that far in advance. (October)

Which leads me to wonder which tours we want to take; they have the Alcatraz & Angel Island Combination Tour. Is it worth it? or just the Alcatraz tour? (I would enjoy the night tour, but with my mother's vision issues we'll have to take the day tour) I noticed that you could choose times....which is better...early morning, or later in the day?

Not yet. My next step is figuring out the hotel situation. Not sure yet which part of the city we want to stay.

nope, went with San Jose since we'll be driving south for the trees as soon as we land. We'll just catch the train over when we're ready to fly back out.

Hotel in SF is now reserved. Next step is to figure out where we're going to stay the first night when we drive down to see the trees.

Any of you California folks have a recommendation for scenic stops on our way back up to SF? I was thinking maybe to drive along the coast.
