Thread: What are you doing today?

You know how you buy trays of flowers and veggies and know exactly where most of them are going? Today the plan is to try to find places for the extras and finish all the planting.

We re just extending our carport..should have done that to begin with a few years ago but the money was a little tight then.

No I think the two hives are settling into a routine now for the summer, It was something the first 6 weeks..all the stuff I thought I would experience in a year took place in 6 short weeks..

    1. Had to split a brand new hive just 14 days after putting the NUC in the brood box because they started swarm queen cells.
    2. just two weeks after that they swarmed anyway.
    3. Called my mentors and we captured the swarm (almost had 3 hives!. But the swarm failed for some reason and within an hour most of the bees returned to the hive and mounded together UNDER the existing hive..only two of the swarm cells hatched indicating one queen killed another and all those others before they made it out..and then swarmed but she may have flown off after we caught them and did not return which explains why they were waiting huddled under the hive.
    4. After three days they were still there so I had to maneuver some frames in two boxes and literally take the bottom board and dump them back into the box!. Man were they mad.
    5. After 7 days I opened the hive again looking for evidence that there was a queen in this hive and saw no eggs or larva so I had to go buy a new queen and place her in the box. Tomorrow I need to reopen as it's now been 7 days to see if she was accepted and is laying.

They seem pretty peaceful and busy and that' a sign they have a queen but I have to be sure.
But with all this drama I may not see any excess honey this year..

Packing books. I sold my library. Downsizing. I am glad I found a buyer. He wanted all my Pentecostal history and videos. I have some that are hard to find. I am glad my books are going to a Pentecostal minister and friend. He is more contemporary than me, but his whole family is in ministry. I hope they see the light and come out of that new "fangled" worship style. We need to get back to the fires of early Pentecost. That's the real deal.

Today was supposed to be a day off, but I guess I'll translate sponsorship reports from Kenya. I had planned to do them yesterday but they didn't arrive in time so I had my OFF day yesterday. My secretary is working on the reports in Nairobi and sending them over to me by e-mail in bunches of four or five. It's encouraging to see how much the support means to these students and their families. Makes me forget my painful shoulder, too :)

I tried to give all my plums away last week but the neighbors couldn’t reach the higher branches with my ladder. So I picked about 10 pounds of plums this afternoon. Now I want to make plum jam. I have some jars and some xylitol, some pectin and some fresh lemon juice. I’m thinking of adding some home made vanilla and maybe some cinnamon. However, as usual, I don’t have a recipe that includes those ingredients. Let’s face it, I don’t have a clue how to make jam anyway.
I’m looking for a recipe and I’ve found a couple that look good.
Um… I may need some help.
Maybe a recipe or a website with clues for the adventuresome kitchen raider?
I’m going to do this. It may be awful but we will not find out until after. Or it might be awesome.
I’m going to sleep before making the attempt on the principle that if I’m awake I might have second thoughts before doing something obviously wrong.
    Yup…
