    Pulled a Karen Today

We were out Christmas shopping today, was at a ROSS, anyway, the line to checkout is halfway the length of the store and there is ONE cashier. I decided to go outside, check my phone and when I come back in I see two managers chatting with each other, I approach them and of course they continue chatting as if I'm not there, so I just wait, move in a bit until they decide to end their chat and acknowledge me. So I say to them, "you see that that line? One cashier? Really?". "Oh, that's all they gave us today, one cashier" says the lady. I reply "Oh really, one cashier?"

Anyway, they opened a few more registers within a minute or two, with many more excuses, "our other cashier has a bad foot", I asked that "other" cashier about her foot at checkout and she said her knee was bothering her a little bit. Things are getting ridiculous.

Hey guys, if you ever get stuck in a ROSS, they do have a pretty cool tool section, nothing high end but quite a few useful little tool sets, cheap.

    Similar to Harbor Freight?

No, nothing compares to harbor freight, but a nice section consisting of homeowner, DIY tool sets, jumper cables, etc.

Harbor Freight is king of tools, I actually try to buy online and pay the 7 dollar shipping charge because if I run into Harbor Freight for a tool or 2 I normally end up with a trunk load of stuff I didn't really need but had to buy because, well, you never know when you might need them.

ROSS is mainly clothing so if you get stuck in there with your wife, you can always ditch to the tool section for solace.

Upon further review, I'm not sure I technically pulled a Karen. I think a proper Karen move would entail berating an innocent clerk and then demanding to speak to the manager, I went directly to the manager, no foul!

Yep. I remember when I bought a $5 machete cuz they were on special.

A little off topic but you reminded me of something that happened once when I was in line at the checkout. I was looking at a display on my left when I noticed that the line was moving, well I moved up a little too far and bumped the gentleman in front of me. I apologized and then went back to reading about the item on my left. When I looked up again I noticed that the gentleman was gone and it was my turn at the checkout so I moved my cart up. What I had not noticed was that he had apparently dropped something and had bent down to pick it up, and I ran into him again while he was on the ground.

Yes, the machete is a "must have", I've had mine for years, never used it.

    Walmart story ..

I've always considered Walmart to be my last resort for shopping, I don't like the way they do business but on occasion they can be useful. Lately their eggs and milk are almost half the price of the other grocers in the area so I decide, ok, I'll hit them up for that stuff. Now Walmart likes to herd everyone through self-checkout, I really hate that and prefer a real cashier, they are also rude about the whole thing, anyway since they are herding everyone through self checkout, they are also asking for receipts when you leave the store, you are now a suspect.

Retailers commonly give away things, offer very cheap prices on some things, they are called "loss leaders", you go all the way to the back of the store to get the cheap milk and they hope you'll throw a few over-priced items into your cart along the way. Well, Walmart also has a very good tool section, not as good as Harbor Freight but some of their tools are real bargains so I'm saving money on milk and then buying some tools.

One problem though, every time I checkout and am about to leave the store this chirpy little lady stops me and asks for a receipt, one time she even rifled through my cart at checkout to see if I was changing tags. Now, the first time it happened, no problem, she's just doing her job, the second time, I'm a little less comfortable with getting pulled over for a receipt, the third time she rifles through the cart, ahhh, no, this is too much but figure she is only doing her job and let it go but when I get home I have this email from Walmart asking me to "rate my Walmart shopping experience". I gave the 1 star, the lowest possible rating and told them that if I am ever accosted again at checkout and treated like a shoplifting suspect I will sue them for public embarrassment, false imprisonment, harm to reputation, etc, etc.

I've been back a few times since and the little chirpy lady isn't there anymore and no one is asking me for receipts.
