Lately their eggs and milk are almost half the price of the other grocers in the area so I decide, ok, I'll hit them up for that stuff. Now Walmart likes to herd everyone through self-checkout, I really hate that and prefer a real cashier, they are also rude about the whole thing, anyway since they are herding everyone through self checkout, they are also asking for receipts when you leave the store, you are now a suspect.

Retailers commonly give away things, offer very cheap prices on some things, they are called "loss leaders", you go all the way to the back of the store to get the cheap milk and they hope you'll throw a few over-priced items into your cart along the way. Well, Walmart also has a very good tool section, not as good as Harbor Freight but some of their tools are real bargains so I'm saving money on milk and then buying some tools.

One problem though, every time I checkout and am about to leave the store this chirpy little lady stops me and asks for a receipt, one time she even rifled through my cart at checkout to see if I was changing tags. Now, the first time it happened, no problem, she's just doing her job, the second time, I'm a little less comfortable with getting pulled over for a receipt, the third time she rifles through the cart, ahhh, no, this is too much but figure she is only doing her job and let it go but when I get home I have this email from Walmart asking me to "rate my Walmart shopping experience". I gave the 1 star, the lowest possible rating and told them that if I am ever accosted again at checkout and treated like a shoplifting suspect I will sue them for public embarrassment, false imprisonment, harm to reputation, etc, etc.

I've been back a few times since and the little chirpy lady isn't there anymore and no one is asking me for receipts.
    Victory!!

Here is my most recent Walmart encounter (I copied from my Facebook)...

So y'alls know I shop Walmart. I mainly gravitate to the fishing area when shopping. Yesterday I was impressed with the large number of women staring at the wall of lures. I was the only male. It was the perfect opportunity to help AND get them out of my way.

So I spoke loudly saying "it must be Christmas because I have never seen an all female crowd studying the lure section". They all turned and stared at me. Then I said "you are obviously buying gifts for the guys in your family and I can help you if you have questions".

    I was an instant hit

The Walmart "Greeters" have been checking receipts down here (in VA) for YEARS...

I don't have a problem with it at all.

However, I was a little bit ticked because when the Self-Checkout Registers first opened, they only accepted Debit/Credit cards as payment, but they now accept Cash too, so I'm good.

You can tell them "no" when they ask, what they are doing is not protected by law (legal). Once it's paid for it belongs to you, the receipt, the contents of the bag, the bag. It's not their business.

    Quick follow up ....

I've been back to Walmart 3 times. Zero hassles, the receipt checkers are gone. It actually feels like a friendlier place.

    Yeah, they weren't hassling anyone.

I don't know who came up with that policy to begin with, it's either some dystopian game to condition us to respond to unlawful orders or some Dilbert-esque decision making in the executive offices. Either way I think it is pretty evil to consider everyone a suspect, if that's your attitude towards customers just shut it down.

Don't know about other places, but down here, Peeps have been known to walk out of Walmart with carts loaded with stuff that they never paid for.

So, I understand why the "Receipt Checking" was being done.

Again, I guess everyone has different "Triggers," but it never bothered me to stop at the door for a few seconds to show the Greeter my receipt.

I've had the same response about 7-8yrs ago at our walmart. I was sarcastic and suggested they call the cops before we go any further. Did that one other time decades ago when a gas station attendant accused me of stealing 20 gal of gas. I had a Triumph Spitfire. 10gal tank. I said lets call the cops and see who is trying to steal from who. He shut right up.
