    Income Tax Time

I know some of you are early birds, did you get your refund yet? For the rest, did you start your taxes yet?

I called and mine should be done on Saturday.

We've been owing the IRS for the last few years, so we wait until April 1st to file.

We never get a refund and we pay quarterly taxes due to Scott's business. And he always files early. He got all his stuff into the accountant last week.

    Being a lifelong preacher/pastor, that's what we do. Self-employed.

Has anyone here ever been audited? After 4 weeks went by and I still didn't get my refund I called an 800 number to check and it said my refund was 'pending review' and that I should hear something by the end of May. Have any of you ever went through something like this before?

Never been audited, but having worked for a CPA firm for the last 15 years, before I retired, I do know that the IRS selects "random" returns to audit on occasion.

We didn't get our refund last year until July even though we mailed the paperwork into the IRS during the first week of February.
E-File users get their refunds back much sooner than us paper filers.
There is such a backlog of paper filers and not enough IRS personnel to process them, that we will mostly likely will not get our refund deposited into our bank account until July again.
Oh well, what's the hurry anyways, it better to wait for the money than to owe, wouldn't you agree?

No, I've never been audited, and the tax preparation software that I use says I'm at a low risk of being audited.

But the fact that your refund is "pending review" doesn't necessarily mean you're being audited. Did you file electronically? Good luck!

I've heard that too which made me wonder if that was what happened.

For many years I did my own taxes and mailed them in but about 5 years ago I got tired of it and started going thru a company that e-files.

Yep, got a letter saying they were checking for identity theft and I had to answer a bunch of questions to verify it was really me. I should get the refund in a few days.
