    counterfeit pool supplies?

Mrs. Zeke ordered shock for our pool through Amazon. It is HTH brand, which we have used for years. This year there is supposedly a chlorine shortage because of all the cleaning supplies due to Covid. So what do the Chinese do? Evidently, they use some kind of filler and sell fake shock. We usually use one per week. After using one per DAY there is still no sign of Chlorine on the test strips. We bought new test strips thinking maybe the old ones went bad. Same thing: no chlorine. Then, we pour a whole package of HTH Shock into a bucket of water and test it. Results: NO CHLORINE!

How long are our manufacturers going to keep using China as their source? We need to totally get rid of anything and everything made in China! American manufacturers need to start making their products right here in the states again. So what if it costs more? China needs to be cut out.

When the Mrs. went on Amazon to rate it, it forces you to use at least 1 star. So far, it doesn't look like they posted it either.

America is in way too deep with communist China!

My opinion, regarding Amazon, is that we need to "unhook" ourselves from them and start buying from our local suppliers and vendors again. Amazon has made purchasing too easy, in my opinion. And there is the problem of getting knock-offs like Zeke experienced above.

Since the whole debacle of Amazon Web Services (aws) removing Parler and others, I've seen what a huge mega-corporation they are and have seen how they are ruining small businesses. It's really alarming when you delve into their world.

Also, there are so many regulations around shipping chlorine, it's not surprising. The shipping manifest should declare what's in the package. I think pool chlorine/shock would be considered a hazardous material. If you look at Home Depot, as an example, any liquid chlorine is not available to be shipped, but must be picked up at the store.

It's not a liquid. It is the same brand that we have been using for years. We normally buy it at Walmart, but there is a shortage this year so she ordered it where she found it online-Amazon.

It is supposed to be chlorine shock. Another weird thing- whatever they used as a filler to sell their fake product gums up the intakes with a clay-paper type substance. Really weird texture. Almost like some kind of clay or plaster powder maybe.

The point is that we need to re-program our buying habits back to what it was like in the 50s and 60s, when American companies made televisions and washing machines and blenders, etc. Of course, this means that Walmart and quite a few others would have to adjust suppliers or go under. They are the main peddlers of Chinese junk.

Walmart was the Trojan horse, pipelined Chinese junk, Amazon refined it.
