Yes...especially warmed with cinnamon or steeped with mulled cider seasoning...

    I'm big on cider..

AJ, the Wassail is sometimes made with cider, but cider, itself, doesn't have all the spices in it. Cider is the juice of the apples.

Here's a place that explains the difference between cider and juice too.

We go up to Oak Glen, it's an apple based community, every year.. as a matter of fact, as soon as I'm done posting I'm getting ready to go today! We always get a bit of cider.. one farm has an apple/cherry combo that's FABulous.

    It's a great family day..

Thanks Femme, that was interesting...and you're right, apple cider per se has no spices unless you add them later. I knew apple cider was 'heartier' for lack of a better word but these excerpts explain it better:

"Fresh cider is raw apple juice that has not undergone a filtration process to remove coarse particles of pulp or sediment..."

"The decision on whether to buy apple cider or apple juice really depends on what you're looking for. For drinking, do you like the sweeter, cleaner taste of clear filtered apple juice, or do you prefer the more robust, earthier taste of cider?"

    I didn't know there was a difference! Down here...if it's cider, it's made with spices....if not, it's juice, and it's clear.

I'm with Lista. I always though it was the spices, or being slightly fermented that changed it from "juice" to "cider". The "cider" I buy never has pulp in it. However, I usually just buy juice and add my own spices, or a boughten spice mixture. For me, it's as much about the aroma of it simmering as it is about the taste of the cider.

The local cider has a little sediment, you usually have to shake it a little before you pour it but I don't think I personally know anyone who drinks it warm, around here we drink it cold.

You know I don't think I ever have either. I hope 'they' don't revoke my southerner card. :)

Cider was a "thing" in the areas where I grew up. I love it, although I haven't had any in years. I did used to make a hot spiced apple juice drink for holidays, but it had a lot of brown sugar in it, and I quit making it after the boys were grown when I started eating healthier.
