roasted brussels sprouts
I'm planning on roasting some brussels sprouts this evening. I found a recipe that uses pine nuts, olive oil, and parmesan cheese. (I'm going to sub in fresh grated romano) anyone have a different recipe (that doesn't involve bacon) that they love?

I looooove Brussels sprouts but I usually just boil them. When they're done I cut them in half and then add some butter or margarine and salt and pepper and I'm happy.
Do you use a lot of pine nuts? I've recently heard of several people getting pine nut syndrome where their body reacts to them and they lose their sense of taste for a few weeks.

I actually lost track of time, so they were already too toasty for me to add in the extra time with the pine nuts. I don't use a lot in general though...usually just with my basil pesto.

We eat brussels sprouts quite often too - I just steam them and then add butter, salt and pepper.

I roast them plain with olive oil and salt. I rarely boil them unless I am cooking them from frozen because roasted is so much more yummy!!

I had them roasted with carrots, onions and pecans once -- and with olive oil and salt. That was really good, too.

I've posted this recipe here three times. I am very prone to oven roasting brussel sprouts...10000 times better than boiling for sure! I oven roast them with apples, pecans, balsamic vinegar, some EVOO, and some salt and pepper, until barely tender. That for me sealed my love of brussel sprouts. Oven roasting them brings out a nutty flavor that you never get by boiling them.
Your kids would probably like them a lot more if you oven roast them with something sweet, and then add some nuts for texture....as HF said...even carrots would be excellent. Roasting brings out the natural sugars and sweetness.

I love roasted vegetables, but not brussels sprouts or broccoli. I like them steamed. Something about roasted green vegetables just doesn't appeal to me.
