Thread: Do you own a microwave oven?

Do you own a microwave oven?

The subject of microwaves was briefly touched on in the Ladies Forum and now I'm curious...do you own one and if so, how often do you use it?

I have a small countertop variety one that I use almost exclusively for reheating things but it broke a few days ago and a friend is suggesting I buy a larger one...but I just don't see the need for it.

So, what type do you have and what do you use it for?

Who DOESN'T have one (except paranoid radio wave types ).

Use it all the time, every day, at least once a day if not more.

Frozen meals; heat unfrozen food up; soup; to warm anything up that needs warming up.

There's the classic story, true by the way, that the guy that discovered microwaves found out because he had a chocolate bar in his pocket and it melted.

"In 1945 the specific heating effect of a high-power microwave beam was accidentally discovered by Percy Spencer, an American self-taught engineer from Howland, Maine. Employed by Raytheon at the time he noticed that microwaves from an active radar set he was working on started to melt a candy bar he had in his pocket."

I have, but I don't use it a lot, at least not for cooking and baking. When we first got one nobody had told me I couldn't boil an egg in there. Eeeek, there was egg all over the kitchen and my face had red spots for a long time when it was over. The big bang you could say

We use ours several times a day for one thing and another.

Krys, if a small size works for you, why change? Mine is a part of the vent hood .

I use mine every day - For cooking and reheating/warming.

Ours is built-in and mounted over the range - I'd prefer a smaller, counter top one, but that's the way the kitchen was configured when we bought the townhouse.

That's what I went with but it was hard to find the type I wanted. I didn't want a digital one, just didn't need it, so I got this one at Walmart:

I can't figure out where I live but we have a microwave in each of our homes. I replaced my wife's mother's microwave when I realized it was interfering with the WIFI in the house. That's more than enough radio wave damage than anyone really needs in the kitchen.
