I sort of like it if there is some "cake" to it, however I can live without fruitcake.

Hubby enjoys it. I don't care for it at all.

This is my main complain about fruitcake. Most if it seems like fruit pressed together into a dense brick with very little cake.

A friend brought us some yesterday though made by their niece, and it was more cake than fruit and I loved it. Best I ever had.

That's thick cream between the thinnest slices of cake imaginable.

My mom used to make a warm sauce to go over fruitcake. It was called "hard sauce". I don't remember the recipe but I know it was very quick and easy to make. I do remember it contained apple cider vinegar.

After just looking at some recipes, I think it was probably sugar, butter and the vinegar cooked together. Probably added a little vanilla.
