I had to DDG that word.

The words may differ slightly (as the church names have) but the teaching of the Church I was saved in was along the lines of the current ACC statement that "We believe in the premillennial, imminent and personal return of our Lord Jesus Christ to gather his people to himself". (ACC | Doctrinal Basis). As most of us at the time were young adults becoming first generation Christians we were taught a little about such things, about lots of things actually, but, not unexpectedly, teaching has all but drifted away.

Such a belief can lead, it has been suggested, to a bit of self centeredness. For hundreds of years now people have been saying that THEY are the last generation and Jesus is going to come and take THEM away. At the same time THEY don't want to go through any type of tribulation. They have been wrong.

Post postmillennialism makes more sense to me. One site suggests that "Most postmillennialists are either preterists or historicists" but I don't know enough about the subject to know if and where I fit there.

With regards to why there is little or no mention of America in End-Times prophecy, I've often read/heard the argument that it's because the Rapture is likely to leave the USA crippled as a nation (since there are a great number of believers in government, military, politics, business, industry, etc. and their sudden absence would ruin such entities.) Even if only, say, 20 percent of Americans are true born-again believers (a random number,) that would still have immense effects considering that Christians have risen to all sorts of prominent levels in power in the USA.

Wonder what other countries would experience similar effects? (Of course, this would get into a fierce debate as to whether Catholics get Raptured or not - personally I doubt it, and this would mean that a nation like the Philippines, for instance, which is around 90 percent Catholic, wouldn't get mostly Raptured.)

Or maybe it's because "America" (and I presume that means the USA) didn't exist when ETP was written, and the USA is actually only important in its own eyes? I think there's someone like Alexander the Great (but don't quote me) who does some big stuff in out history books, but one of them just gets a passing reference in the Bible, and only because it was relevant.

As for Catholics, they hear words from the Bible, but most will never hear the Gospel in the RCC itself. There's quite a few though, like my wife and I, whom God drew to Jesus outside of it.

Seems fitting (possibly). Or maybe just to lighten things up:
