I think the real lesson in all this is if one is going to leave their spouse it it best to murder them and not divorce them...because the church will forgive you of murder. :)

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

It's all over the board. I know of one church who allows/condones/suggests divorce in the case of "spiritual adultery", defined as "those who leave this church are committing spiritual adultery", they quickly render an approval of divorce and match make within the body to get a new spouse for the one who stays. Nobody skips a beat, no restoration, repentance necessary, just business as usual.

If you pay your debt to society first and they think you actually repented and are rehabilitated to some degree. Which corresponds to dealing with the crumbling marriage in a proper manner before expecting to find acceptance for a new one. It's not that dissimilar if you think about it.

I have one response...when someone repents and returns to the Lord, they are clean, forgiven...and IN that position of being clean and forgiven they will submit to the leading of the Holy Spirit and be used as God sees fit...if man has a problem with forgiveness that is their problem.

Sorry, that's just a really really old joke.
John, that's just rude.

We are not talking about forgiveness. That is no the issue. We are talking about his qualifications to again retain leadership in the Church. I say he has no right to be a leader. He has lost it all. He needs to sit down, shut up and keep his ugly snout off the platform. It may hurt, but he did it to himself. He may be a brother in Christ, but he cannot continue as a platform entertainer. He has had too many women. That disqualifies him. He treated his first wife in such a dirty way and then to go backstage and have sex with this other floozy? You got to be kidding. I wouldn't walk across the street to hear this bloke and see him holy ghost kick those who come in the prayer line. He might better be successful in the pro wrestling shows.

Wow...I must have missed a LOT on this thread
Jumping ahead 10 pages I do get the jest...that adultery is somehow being projected as an unpardonable sin as far as the 'church' is concerned?
Yep...I reckon that is the bottom line based on some organizational structures..
When a person makes an excuse for their divorce they likely have not reached a true level of repentance...I did not see that in TB..I heard his testimony and I saw and heard genuine repentance.
I will add that genuine repentance is not what most actually do IMHO. Most settle in comfortably with an 'I am sorry...but'.
