I saw an American minister (I think he was a pastor) on God TV who was speaking from a makeshift platform they had set up and he talked about how the platform could barely hold his weight. He sounded like he was bragging or at least as if he plain didn't care. He must have weighed 300 or closer to 400 pounds.

Well, especially as Bentley repented, was under pastoral care during restoration, is strictly accountable, seems to be living a godly, clean, life, in the 7-8 years since his fall. The commentary and harsh judgements and condemnations would be akin to someone who never repented, hasn't been through restoration, and has never held himself accountable to anyone.

    It's really just bizarre, imo.

Many years ago, we had a christian friend living with us for a while as he recovered from a painful divorce. We were there to give him stability while he tried to get his life back in order.
During that period, we were visited for the weekend by another friend from way way back, who had also just gone through a divorce.
We introduced the two of them and suggested they compared notes while we made the dinner.

As we talked afterwards, their conclusion, based on their experience was thus.
If you murder someone, you can still repent and be forgiven, and restored to full fellowship.

In contrast, if you are a divorcee, you are always guilty and can never be forgiven and restored.
By and large the church still holds you guilty all the time you remain separated from your spouse and your marriage vows.
Until you repent, which in their eyes means going back to the marriage, you remain an unrepentant sinner every day, and therefore outside of fellowship.

Now while this might not be acted on as a formal punishment, the way people react leaves an implied sense of guilt. It seems to fly over their heads that the spouse might now be married to another.

thing is, TB isn't very clear about himself, he kinda plays the "prophetically gifted" and "minister prophetically" thing, so if you are confused take it up with him. One could very easily surmise that he is holding himself out as a prophet. But like most in that "stream", they usually leave a lot of wiggle room in their "words".

"Is not my word like fire," declares the LORD, "and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

My issue is quite clear, standards of spiritual ministry, do we have any? Do we have any here? Is it appropriate to call for others to "examine" a word and ignore the character of the one speaking it? These are the issues I'm interested in and discussing.

Excuse me!! You cannot separate the message from the messenger if the messenger is claiming divine inspiration.

Assuming even a lower biblical standard for ministry fitness, which I don't, the problem there is that same people who initially ordained him, while he was an active drunkard and adulterer are the same ones who are now declaring him fit.

I think the whole bunch needs a "talkin to". They'll eventually get it, it's coming.

My point of view, since everyone has one...

All of the technicality of office of prophet vs being able to prophesy was never addressed by the msog group I was a part of. The folks who were called prophets prophesied. No one held classes giving practice prophetic words. No one held classes teaching people how to heal. The Holy Spirit was their teacher.

Whether it be TB or some other high profile person, when you speak before the world or the internet or whatever, if you are saying "God told me" or "thus sayeth the Lord", you will be held to a higher standard. To say we are all sinners doesn't equate because we are not all going before the people speaking as a messenger of God. Many of the "words from God" I've seen in recent years are just the same as they were 50 years ago, as to content. The very same.

Teaching from the Bible does not necessarily imply that one has the ministry gift of the teacher
Evangelizing sinners does not necessarily imply that one has the ministry gift of the evangelist
Prophecying does not necessarily imply that one has the ministry gift of the prophet

No, actually, TB is VERY CLEAR. Prophetic ministry can take place where any Church exists, even if the Church does not have a prophet.

Don't blame the rest of us for a lack of understanding on your part.

As for the rest of your post, quite frankly, if you blew it badly and repented, submitted your life, etc...and 8 years later, people dismissed every thing in your life, SWEARING you had no character whatsoever, then how would YOU feel? Not so great, I'd reckon.
