It's not self-serving per se I don't think, it's just that she wanted the emphasis to be on the prophecy itself because she knew the potential of what could happen because it was Todd Bently. And since she posted it not one follow up post has been about the prophecy itself because you made it about Todd. You could have started another thread and said, "AJ requested that her thread be not about Todd but the prophecy, but I do want to discuss the subject of Todd Bently giving a prophecy." Then everybody could :deadhorse: on Todd or defend him whatever the case may be. :)

Since when does the character of the prophet not fit into the decision to accept or reject ministry?

I do believe that those in the "prophetic stream" do more harm to the ministry of prophecy than any other group. There is a difference between being persecuted for Christ and being called out for flaky ministry or shoddy ministerial standards.

I don't follow Paula White or John Avanzini so I don't even usually read the threads. John Avanzini, I can't say I've even heard of him.

I don't really follow Todd Bentley, either, but thought it was an interesting word. A friend inboxed it to me today.

John, just let it be or, like fuego said, start your own thread about TB and trash away.

I haven't trashed TB, I am objecting to the principle that the character of the prophet is not a factor when weighing a prophecy. You asked us to do something with a spiritual arm tied behind our back. You can get others into trouble when you do that.

These things really do matter. The bible lays out these things for our safety and ignoring proper prophetic protocol or in this case, insisting on ignoring sound examination is just not wise.

If the post had been about praising TB or rendering him as beyond criticism then it would be understandable that you would object. It is not.

John Avanzini was the granddaddy of "I'm rich therefore give to me since I'm good soil" 25 years ago. That's not an exaggeration, that is exactly what he taught. He's toned that down a lot since then but I don't think he has changed much. Not that that has got anything to do with prophets or prophecy.
