    Cool Preterists (in any flavour)

Am I the only preterist on the forum?

By "Preterist" I mean that, in some form or fashion, you believe that most or all of the events described in Revelation (and Daniel, Matthew 24, and other places) have already happened. They were prophetic at the time they were written, but those prophecies were fulfilled. While most Preterists believe that events were fulfilled in 70AD, some of us believe that they were fulfilled on the cross and 70AD was merely the consequence of it. Preterists come in many flavours, like Partial, Full, Overflowing, Mild, Moderate, Extreme, Consistent, Orthodox, Classical, True, and Pantelist. Preterists are often charismatic, though "full" prets tend toward cessationism. I'm not sure what the ratio is, but prets also come in "premillennial" and "postmillennial" flavours.

    Just curious!

I believe Bible prophecies often have multiple fulfillments and 70 AD would be only one point in time. I most strongly believe that Jesus will return, that there will be final judgment then a new Earth where righteousness dwells and to complete and infinite degree. The rest is details.

I will say though, and I need to read about it again, the part about Matthew 24 having been fulfilled already, I could maybe get on board with that if I studied it further. It made sense when I read/heard it it at the time (not sure where it was), or let's say it made enough sense to at least consider. I have a pdf copy of Glorious Eschatology. I just need to read it.

I know Hank Handergraff is some form of Preterist. But that would be a case against it.

At least LaHaye & Jenkins are socially acceptable.

My daughter's pastor teaches preterism and I've done a bit of reading... but I just can't say that it's all been fulfilled.

I DO know that sitting around, waiting for the rapture is something it seems many Christians have done for decades, while many others realize there's still so much work to do before Jesus returns, when ever and how ever that happens.

I can't even say I'm firmly in one of the categories of pre, mid, or post tribulation rapture. Scripture is going to be completely fulfilled, one way or the other. All I can do for sure is what he asks of me on any given day, at any given moment.

Preterism just doesn't work for me.

Here is the workaround for that:

"Traditionally, the book of Revelation has been dated near the end of the first century, around A.D. 96. Some writers, however, have advanced the preterist (from a Latin word meaning “that which is past”) view, contending that the Apocalypse was penned around A.D. 68 or 69, and thus the thrust of the book is supposed to relate to the impending destruction of Jerusalem (A.D. 70)."
