    Meaning the prophecies are so specific, or relevant, rather than generic words, that...

    1 Timothy 1:18
    This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy, according to the prophecies which went before on thee, that thou by them mightest war a good warfare;

    That you can stand on them and war with them just like you would any scripture(s).

    Yes, That is it. I have a couple that are absolutely from God. One has saved my life.

    Paul is admonishing him to remember them and stand on them so I gather he was in a struggle and needed reminding..

    I can't think of a prophetic word that I took such a stand on..I had one some years ago that I recall and pray over from time to time as in submitting myself willingly if that is accurate but have not claimed it as an absolute in my life..maybe that's the kind of warfare it speaks of...just continuing in what you are doing because the prophetic words spoken in the past are conclusive that you are where you should be and doing what you should be?

    I guess I am saying I don't act on prophetic words unless the Spirit is firming them by His leading. Then the answer would be yes because they AGREE..the agreement is comforting.

    My wife just got our yearly "word" from Life Center Church. It was tremendous as usual. WHy? Because we already go in with a basic sense of direction from the Lord. What they do is CONFIRM much of what already we feel we are hearing from the Lord. In addition, they give us some thoughts of what we have been going through and where it is going -- uncanny, if you didn't know that this should be expected.

    When godly people operate in the gift together as a team, it is powerful and effective. We always walk away super encouraged.

    And that is the way it should be-confirmation of what the Spirit is already speaking to you. The bible tells us that "as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God". It doesn't say "As many as are led by prophets....."

    In fact, Paul said to let the prophets speak, and then the rest judge.

    Sometimes it does not confirm anything we have in our spirits. But we should have an inner witness to it's authenticity. Agabus prophesied a world famine. Because of his track record of accurate prophecies the apostles gave heed to his warning. Prophetic Words can cause us to go back and rethink what we believe is God's plan, when it's just our own ideas with a little prayer slapped on it. Acts 11:28 One of them, named Agabus, stood up and through the Spirit predicted that a severe famine would spread over the entire Roman world. (This happened during the reign of Claudius.)

    Where does it say that the apostles accepted his prophecy on the basis of his track record ?

    Marks of true and false apostles, prophets, teachers, etc.

    11:1 Whoever therefore shall come and teach you all these things that have been said before, receive him;
    11:2 But if the teacher himself be perverted and teach a different doctrine to the destruction thereof, hear him not;
    11:3 But if to the increase of righteousness and the knowledge of the Lord, receive him as the Lord.
    11:4 But concerning the apostles and prophets, do according to the ordinance of the Gospel.
    11:5 Let every apostle, when he comes to you, be received as the Lord;
    11:6 But he shall not abide more than a single day, or if there be need, a little more.
    11:7 But if he abide three days, he is a false prophet.
    11:8 And when he departs, let the apostle receive nothing except bread, until he finds shelter;
    11:9 But if he asks for money, he is a false prophet.
    11:10 And you shall not put to a test nor discern any prophet speaking in the Spirit;
    11:11 For every sin shall be forgiven, but this sin shall not be forgiven.

    This is a startling interpretation of the mysterious unforgiveable sin, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, mentioned in Matthew 12:31 and Mark 3:29. However one interpets this sin, it is obvious that the only unforgiveable sin is one that prevents a person from coming to the Lord for forgiveness. Thus it is clear that people who worry about having committed this sin have not done so.

    11:12 Yet not every one that speaks in the Spirit is a prophet, but only if he have the ways of the Lord.
    11:13 From his ways therefore the false prophet and the prophet shall be recognized.
    11:14 And no prophet when he orders a table in the Spirit shall eat of it;
    11:15 Otherwise he is a false prophet.

    The meaning of ordering or requesting a table "in the Spirit" is unclear.

    11:16 And every prophet teaching the truth, if he does not what he teaches, is a false prophet.
    11:17 And every prophet approved and found true, if he does anything as an outward mystery typical of the Church, and yet does not teach you to do all that he himself does, shall not be judged before you;
