Jill Biden Whines About People Making Fun of Her Doctorate

So here is a story I don't get. It's very common for people with a doctorate degree to go by 'DR.' This is very common in academics. Nothing strange about that at all. You can bet I would think it was ridiculous if Mrs. Trump had a doctorate and went by Dr. and the left was making fun of her. Well, that works both ways. I think this is kind of a petty partisan thing whether it was from the left or the right. This time it's from the right. Lots of things to report on about Biden and attack but one of them is not the fact that his wife goes by 'Dr.' IMO. And I don't see the whine in the article either.

In an interview with "comedian" Stephen Colbert, Jill Biden breaks silence about everyone's reaction to her "doctorate" degree.

"You once said in your own memoir, 'The role I always felt most at home in is Dr. Biden,'" began Colbert.

"Now, some people have recently taken upon themselves to question that title of yours. Do you have any reaction to those people?" he asked.

According to The Daily Wire, Colbert referred to a Saturday op-ed in The Wall Street Journal by Joseph Epstein's, "Is There a Doctor in the White House? Not if You Need an M.D."

Epstein is a former Northwestern University lecturer who also served as an editor of The American Scholar from 1975 to 1997. He argued that the former second lady, who obtained her doctorate in education in 2007 at the University of Delaware, should drop the "doctor" title.

"Yeah, that was such a surprise," replied Jill Biden.

"It was really the tone of it that I think that — you know, he called me 'kiddo.' One of the things I'm most proud of is my doctorate; I mean, I worked so hard for it. And, you know, Joe came when I defended my thesis."

Joe Biden interjected that he's proud of his wife having a doctorate. He said that Jill had two master's degrees yet, still keep going to school while teaching at night. He then suggested that she should get a doctorate and "make us some real money." Joe claimed that Jill got a $2,000 raise thereafter.

"But look at all the people who came out in support of me," continued Jill Biden. "I am so grateful. And I was just overwhelmed by how gracious people were toward me."

Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson was one of the people who unfavorably reacted to Jill Biden, comparing her to "Dr. Bill Cosby."

Carlson's comments came after the controversial op-ed written by Epstein. The former lecturer advised Jill to not go by "Dr." since she is a doctor of education and not of the medical profession.

The Fox News host echoed Epstein's assessment and mocked Jill Biden. Carlson said that Jill is "a doctor of education, which means basically nothing."

Years ago I was dating a girl whose parents were university professors. One day I made the mistake of saying "a real doctor" when I meant a medical doctor. They set me straight. A real doctor is an educator, because that's what "doctor" means. When you say "doctor" without any modifier it means an educator. Otherwise you should say "a medical doctor" or "a physician". Jill Biden has her doctorate and is an educator, therefore she is a doctor. Now we can debate the difficulty for a rich woman in her 50s to obtain a doctorate in education and things of that sort, but whether or not she's a doctor isn't even an issue.

When I first heard her referred to as "Dr. Jill Biden," I thought" "Oh, she's a medical doctor?"

I learned a long time ago that if a person is not a "medical doctor," but has a doctorate degree, it's appropriate for him or her to be referred to as Mr. or Ms. So-and-So, PhD - Not "Doctor"

I know many that go by Dr. that are not medical doctors. It's very common in academia. It's not given a second thought.

The etiquette inside academia is not the real world, folks out here want their doctors licensed to practice medicine. Jill Biden and everyone else with a doctorate knows that, the mockery is well deserved.

Well I know plenty that use it in the 'real world' and it's common. Just a petty nitpicking in this whole thing IMO. There are actually real problems to address.

Except when introducing conference speakers at a mega-size christian conference. That Dr title allows confidence among the listeners that their lofty ticket price was worth it. Dr=anointed.

Most of those are 'honorary'. Now that IS the height of ego.
