Sounds interesting, but isn't Traverse City a liberal bastion as well? We'd definitely have to move!

Since the current political divide in America is urban/rural rather than north/south or coastal/interior,
I propose we create a new state for every metro area in the USA having a population over 1 million.

Nah, Michigan turns mostly democrat south of US 10. That is where all the major cities are.

I'd guess most.
For example, here's a chart showing the blue/red divide in the conservative state of Utah,
with Salt Lake City in the upper right.

Can't see the chart. The Mormon stronghold of Salt Lake City seems like an obvious exception though.

The best solution isn't to split the nation up, but to create more conservative states. Each state represents 2 additional Republican senators (for instance, split Wyoming into East Wyoming, South Wyoming, North Wyoming, West Wyoming.) Keep doing this and eventually you have a 200-seat Senate in which Republicans hold a majority of roughly 150-50.
This also means that Wyoming goes from being a 3-electoral-vote state, to suddenly four Wyomings who command 12 electoral votes in total. If we repeat this process with Montana, Nebraska, Idaho, Oklahoma, etc. it would then give Republicans something like 70% of all Electoral College votes.
