If the Electoral College votes on December 14 and Biden gets 270, is it officially over?
We aren't far out from deadlines now. December 8 is the cutoff date for states to certify their results. December 14 is when the Electoral College formally votes.
In other words, if Trump is going to turn this electoral ship around, he's got very little time left to do so. Either he must start winning lawsuits and appeals NOW, or else the goose is cooked.
If the Electoral College does award Biden 270 next December-14, is it officially over?

Is it officially over after Biden is inaugurated ?

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
It will be over on January 20, 2021 when Donald J. Trump is sworn in as the President.

One thing to note is that electors, at the Electoral College, aren't required under the federal Constitution to vote for
the candidate who got the most votes in their state.

Some states have fines for doing that but that is about all. Democrats wanted that to happen in 2016, are you saying that the electoral college might turn the election even if the court system maintains that Biden is the legitimate winner ? Because they feel sufficiently convinced ?

True. When Trump won in 2016 the dems were trying to encourage the electors to defect and vote for Hillary anyway.

I think it's unlikely but still possible. They may believe that Biden got more legitimate votes in their states and nevertheless select Trump.

I think the hope was that they would select Pence rather than Trump. That's my recollection at least.

Yes, but electors are extremely vetted for loyalty. They are typically the most diehard of diehards. Anybody who showed the slightest sign of wavering, wouldn't be selected in the first place.
The odds of a Democratic elector voting for Trump are as low as that of Hillary, Obama, Kamala or Pelosi voting for Trump. That's how loyal these electors are.
The odds of 20, 30 or 40 Democratic electors voting for Trump, is zilch. One would have a better chance of winning the Powerball than of that happening.
