Kasich and Romney (and George Will for that matter) are definitely not "liberal" in their cultural, economic, and
foreign policy positions. But they clearly believe that President Trump is fundamentally corrupt and self-serving
and therefore a threat to the nation, and so they're willing to (temporarily) reduce their emphasis on policy, even
if that means going against their party.

In this country someone like Donald Trump would have formed his own political party and he would have formed a coalition with one of the large political parties on either side of the middle. Or he could have tried to rule from a minority position, cooperating with each side on a case-by-case basis. A minority coalition is also possible.

Romney, Kasich, George Will are of the "Forever Wars" party. Most neo-cons have switched sides since Trump isn't all that much interested in perpetual policing of the world.
