The first cracks in the unified Democrat resistance to reopening the nation's schools have appeared and they are massive.

On Friday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer broke with Speaker Nancy Pelosi and called for schools to reopen, putting him on the same side as President Trump as well as tens of millions of American parents.

Schumer's cave-in comes as Pelosi continues to obstruct a stimulus package to mitigate the economic damage of the Democrats' weaponizing of the coronavirus to achieve their political objectives unless it includes bailouts of blue states that have been mismanaged to the brink of bankruptcy.

According to New York's senior senator:

"If we don't open up the schools, you're going to hurt the economy significantly because lots of people can't go to work..."
The comments were made at a press conference where Schumer wailed in indignation against President Trump and Republicans over the stalled aid package.

Holding the children hostage with school closures to drag out the economic damage in order to hurt Trump has always been a boneheaded idea that impedes the educational and social development of kids and empowers greedy teachers' unions at the expense of the nation's youngest.

While Pelosi would burn the entire country down to get Trump, Schumer is a cynical political creature who isn't into such a dangerous game of chicken, and on Friday, he blinked.

Also on Friday, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo who unlike his communist cohort Mayor Bill de Blasio isn't an ideologue announced that New York schools are now authorized to reopen.

Via Yahoo News, "New York Schools Across the State Have Been Authorized to Reopen, Gov. Andrew Cuomo Says":

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has given all school districts statewide, including New York City public schools, the permission to reopen this fall.

Cuomo announced on Friday that due to the low infection rate throughout the state, all schools have been authorized to reopen — although before opening their doors for in-person learning, schools must submit plans on how to keep students and staff safe, which will have to be approved by the New York State Department of Health.

"You look at our infection rate, we probably are in the best situation in the country right now," Cuomo told reporters on a call Friday according to CBS New York. He went on to note that the state's infection rate as of Friday was just 1 percent.

"If anybody can open schools, we can open schools. And that's true for every region in the state, period," he added.

With both Schumer and Cuomo now having done a complete reversal on schools, it is not good optics for Pelosi who last Sunday appeared on ABC's "This Week" to insist that they stay closed indefinitely (translation: until after the election) as her war with Trump enters the scorched earth phase.

Via The Hill, "Pelosi: Slowing coronavirus spread necessary before reopening schools":

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Sunday that the U.S. needs to get better control over the coronavirus outbreak before a widespread reopening of schools can occur safely.

In an interview with ABC's "This Week," the House leader said Trump administration officials are not being realistic about the ability of local officials to keep students safe.

"When you ... reduce the spread, you can open up the schools, when you reduce the rate of infection in a community," Pelosi said. "But until you do that, you have to be very careful."

With no bailouts coming for New York, Schumer and Cuomo are crying uncle in what could be a sign of a coming mutiny aboard Nancy's ship of fools.
