Teens on TikTok sabotaged Trump rally tickets

TikTok users and K-pop fans claim they reserved hundreds of tickets for Donald Trump's Tulsa rally on Saturday night with no intention of attending.

Political strategist Steve Schmidt, an outspoken critic of Trump, tweeted on Saturday night: 'My 16 year old daughter and her friends in Park City Utah have hundreds of tickets. You have been rolled by America's teens.

@realDonaldTrump you have been failed by your team. You have been deserted by your faithful. No one likes to root for the losing team.'

He then added: 'This is what happened tonight. I'm dead serious when I say this. The teens of America have struck a savage blow against @realDonaldTrump. All across America teens ordered tickets to this event. The fools on the campaign bragged about a million tickets. lol.'

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez praised the Zoomers and K-pop allies involved in reserving tickets.

The Oklahoma rally was intended to be the largest indoor gathering in the world during the coronavirus pandemic that has killed almost 120,000 Americans, put 40 million more out of work and upended Trump's reelection bid.

Trump's campaign, for its part, declared that it had received over a million ticket requests...

The prank by TikTok users and K-pop fans came after the Trump campaign tweeted to ask the President's supporters to register for the free tickets earlier this month.

The plan to sabotage the rally quickly went viral and videos telling viewers to reserve tickets and then not show up to began racking up millions of views.

Many of the videos were then deleted in an attempt to keep the plan a secret, although in one which is still live, a TikTok user says sarcastically: 'Oh no, I signed up for a Trump rally and I can't go, I'm sick.'

The plan then spread across multiple social media platforms...

Trump campaign statement on bogus claims of ticket hacking
    June 21, 2020
    Attention Required! | Cloudflare

"Leftists and online trolls doing a victory lap, thinking they somehow impacted rally attendance, don't know what they're talking about or how our rallies work. Reporters who wrote gleefully about TikTok and K-Pop fans - without contacting the campaign for comment - behaved unprofessionally and were willing dupes to the charade. Registering for a rally means you've RSVPed with a cell phone number and we constantly weed out bogus numbers, as we did with tens of thousands at the Tulsa rally, in calculating our possible attendee pool. These phony ticket requests never factor into our thinking. What makes this lame attempt at hacking our events even more foolish is the fact that every rally is general admission - entry is on a first-come-first-served basis and prior registration is not required. The fact is that a week's worth of the fake news media warning people away from the rally because of COVID and protestors, coupled with recent images of American cities on fire, had a real impact on people bringing their families and children to the rally. MSNBC was among outlets reporting that protesters even blocked entrances to the rally at times. For the media to now celebrate the fear that they helped create is disgusting, but typical. And it makes us wonder why we bother credentialing media for events when they don't do their full jobs as professionals."

Some parents may be encouraging their kids to cheat. (Note the recent college admissions scandal.)

Trump rally gives Fox News largest Saturday night audience in its history
    By Brian Flood
Trump rally gives Fox News largest Saturday night audience in its history | Fox News

President Trump's rally on Saturday attracted a record-setting audience on TV
despite the smaller-than-expected crowd in attendance at the Tulsa, Okla., event.

A whopping 7.7 million total viewers tuned into Fox News from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. EDT during Trump's remarks, making it the most watched Saturday in the network's history during that time period, according to early Nielsen data.

Trump's rally also gave Fox News its largest Saturday night primetime audience ever from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Trump's State of the Union address is the only telecast on Fox News in 2020 to outdraw the 9 p.m. hour of Trump's speech on Saturday, which averaged 8.2 million total viewers.

By comparison, ESPN's coverage of the NFL Draft's opening night averaged 8 million, MSNBC's most-watched Democratic primary debate averaged 7.7 million and CNN's most-watched Democratic primary debate averaged 7.4 million.

The Trump campaign has stated that even more viewers tuned in when including the significant audience that watched via streaming platforms.

"President Trump's rally in Tulsa attracted over 4 million unique viewers across all of the campaign's digital media channels. The live-streamed pre-rally shows drew an audience of more than 2.5 million unique viewers by themselves," Trump 2020 communications director Tim Murtaugh said in a statement.

Fox News' YouTube stream picked up over 2.1 million views, while Fox Business Network's livestream drew over 580,000. The rally was streamed on a variety of other platforms, as well....

Trump's New Tulsa Ratings are In and They're Massive

Trump's New Tulsa Ratings are In and They're Massive

...It certainly served to generate disappointing optics, but as Forbes has now reported, the crowd who was watching at home is mindblowing:

President Trump's weekend rally in Tulsa, Oklahoma was nowhere near the packed-to-the-rafters event the president had promised, but cable news viewers tuned in to watch in large numbers, with a total audience on Saturday evening of 11.77 million viewers across the three major cable news networks.

Fox News Channel had the largest overall audience by far, with 7.661 million viewers between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET, followed by CNN with just 2.2 million and MSNBC with 1.9 million.

Nearly 12 million people watched Trump's first return to form, somewhat smothering the idea that few people actually care about him anymore.
