Study shows that riots turn America more conservative

If there is anything good that comes out of violent, destructive riots, it is this: They tend to turn the country rightward, politically, according to a new study.
According to New York Magazine, of all outlets,Omar Wasow, an assistant professor at the department of politics at Princeton, has just published a paper noting that riots, generally speaking, tend to Make America Conservative Again.

"They generate attention, all right, but the wrong kind," NY Mag says, though we'd disagree because making more Americans conservative is always a good thing.

    NY Mag notes:

The 1960s saw two overlapping waves of protest: nonviolent civil-rights demonstrations, and urban rioting. The 1960s also saw the Republican Party crack open the New Deal coalition by, among other things, appealing to public concerns about law and order. In 1964, Lyndon Johnson swept every region of the country except the South running a liberal, pro-civil-rights campaign; in 1968, Richard Nixon won a narrower victory on the basis of social backlash.

In analyzing the phenomenon, Wasow compared the public's concern for civil rights with its concern for "social control," with violent and nonviolent protests. On a county-by-county basis, "I find that black-led protests in which some violence occurs are associated with significant decline in Democratic vote-share in the 1964, 1968, and 1972 presidential elections," he wrote.

But black-led nonviolent protests did not produce losses of Democrat voters, Wasow noted further.

"Wasow finds that nonviolent civil-rights protests did not trigger a national backlash, but that violent protests and looting did. The physical damage inflicted upon poor urban neighborhoods by rioting does not have the compensating virtue of easing the way for more progressive policies; instead, it compounds the damage by promoting a regressive backlash," NY Mag reported.

A word about liberal phraseology here. First of all, Left-wing policies are generally punitive and capricious in that they are far less tolerant of others who don't have the same political viewpoints. Therefore, they aren't progressive, they are actually regressive because they harken back to the days before our founding when we weren't governed by elected leaders but instead ruled by kings and appointees of The Crown.

So, having pointed that out, NY Mag then claims that the protests of the 1960s, many of which were violent and overly destructive, ushered in a "Nixonian law and order backlash" that "drove a wave of repressive criminal-justice policies that carried through for decades with such force that even Democrats like Bill Clinton felt the need to endorse them in order to win elections."

However, the reality is, most Americans – including most Democrat voters – are all-in for protesting but abhor violence and wanton destruction of their cities and their public services, especially under the guise of 'trying to change the system.'

Justice for alleged victims like George Floyd is not served by burning down businesses, looting private property, smashing police vehicles, and torching public buildings.

And, again, many Democrats agree that the violence and the looting is insane. American civil rights attorney Leo Terrell blasted Democrats during an appearance on Fox News' Sean Hannity program Friday, saying the party will 'lose' him if members don't stand up and publicly condemn the rioters.

"There is universal acceptance that the murder of George Floyd was wrong. We agree with that," he said. "I am disappointed, shocked that there has been no Democratic lawmaker in the last 72 hours who have focused on the criminal activities of these individuals who are not protesting.

"These are criminals and they are breaking the law using the guise of caring about George Floyd," Terrell noted further. "And, I encourage all you Democratic lawmakers, all you lawmakers, to stand up and criticize these criminals."

"I've got news for you: you're alienating me," he said of Democrats. "I'm a black voter and you have lost me if you don't stand up and do something about these criminals."
