They are essentially criminals. I cringe when I hear how "smart" they are. They lie, cheat, steal, bribe and blackmail and get away with it so maybe that is "smart". Of course most of DC is in bed with them but I doubt we will be hearing much about THAT.

Please, don't close Wal Mart! I can't afford to shop at Target!

And that has been the plan all along. To create dependence on China. They have escalated of course in many evil ways, fentanyl being perhaps the most egregious.

If you roll back to pre-globalism, pre-outsourcing of our manufacturing base, affordability of consumer goods was not an issue. Folks were making 30-40 an hour sticking bumpers on Chevies. That money circulated and lifted all boats.

My grandmother, a single mom in the 50's-60's was a security guard at a GM plant in Cleveland. She was able to buy a house, a new car, had a nice pension and savings. In fact, had a nice retirement.

We need to take care of America and shut the doors to the parasites.

In the '80's when we both had comfortable paying jobs, we refused to fall into the trap of jumping in and buying a bigger and better home. When things took a big financial downturn in the '90's, we were really thankful for it.

I know we all talk about everything these days being cheap junk from China, but it is surprising how much merchandise in WM is from Mexico and other Central American countries.

I seem to remember when WM first started it was basically "USA", had a bit of a patriotic vibe about it.

Now that you mention it, I thought WM was about American made. Didn't they used to tout that a lot?

Wal-mart dictates pricing to vendors. The vendors do what they have to do. Shipping and transportation costs from Mexico and Latin America probably offsets Chinese slave labor costs.

You buy a bicycle from WM, you feed a peasant in Mexico.

My first pay check job at age 14 was in a grocery store, I learned groceries inside out. I did stocking, price changes, ran the registers (no scanners), bagged groceries and was the weekend produce manager. I am an expert grocery shopper, I know all the tricks.

That being said, WM is not a very good value at all for groceries. They use a lot of grocery tricks but they are definitely not the lowest cost and the quality is sub-par. Thing is they have so much clout as a buyer that they can easily fool you with packaging and sizes that are specific to WM, like 11.5 ounce packages vs. normal 12 oz. packaging elsewhere. I'm guessing that they also tinker with ingredients in order to get a price down.

You can get good prices on some things there but a general grocery tab would not be competitive with any other grocery store.

And what is with their "meat"? It always looks strange, can't say I've ever purchased any from them.

I did my grocery shopping at Wal-Mart for about a year, but the quality of the produce and the meat steadily declined, and I switched to Kroger...

That being said, I still find some "bargains" at Wal-Mart such as coffee, clothes, home goods, etc.
