It would be interesting to know the results of the poll if the questions were put to a lot of people in the Scandinavian countries; the results might shed some light on the differences in political views between the two regions.

During the debate, Senator Sanders stated his support for the kinds of policies that are implemented in those nations.

At first glance many of those would seem palatable to many Scandinavians but if they understood the issues more deeply then I'm not so sure. What works in oil rich Norway and even in Sweden might not work that well in the US either. My impression of Bernie Sanders is that he would probably find himself at home with the Norwegian Socialist party. About 10 percent of Norwegians find themselves as far to the left or further to the left. That could be because the Socialist party was (for the first time I believe) in government coalition with the worker's party (centrist) not long ago and "the grass is greener on the other side of the fence" effect consequently doesn't exist where it does for a lot of Americans who are tired of both Republicans and centrist Democrats.

I'm not sure what to click on for half of the issues presented at the site but I'm pretty sure that I lean towards the Republicans based on the issues presented alone. Even when the strictly moral issues are ignored. I'm not sure if that would be the case if other issues had been presented (still ignoring the moral issues) but then yours is a different country to mine so it doesn't really say that much.

More Republicans at the top than Democrats but it doesn't say that much because I really am not sure what to think of at least half the issues. Even a Norwegian Socialist could well click on something Republican, and the other way around.

Interesting analysis. I don't know anything about Norwegian politics, but I did look up the Norwegian Socialist Party. It seems to me that it's leader, Audun Lysbakken, is far to the left of Sanders. Senator Sanders definitely does not want to abolish the private ownership of the means of production (which is the classic definition of socialism).

As deputy leader of the Socialist Youth, Lysbakken described himself as a Marxist, and expressed wishes to "abolish capitalism" as well as the Oslo Stock Exchange. In a study booklet for the Socialist Youth that he co-authored, called Manifest 02, he called for a ban on the right to privately own means of production as well as wage labour. He argued for his views in a 2005 interview and was defended by Prime Minister Stoltenberg when appointed minister in 2009. During his campaign to be elected party leader in 2011, he said that "Ten years ago, when I was elected as a representative to the Parliament, I called myself a revolutionary marxist. I no longer do. The world has changed, and the Socialist Left has changed." In 2009 he co-authored a book, arguing that the financial crisis demonstrated, among other things, a need for greater economic democracy.

Lysbakken is a former Marxist and could well be the type who engages in politics through the Socialist party because more can be done there than through a marginalized party further to the left. Meaning he hasn't really changed that much. Lysbakken was still quite young in 2005, only 28. His stated view certainly doesn't represent their voter base.

I'm sure you have politicians in the US also who talk more centrist than what they really believe in.

I've managed to get Marco Rubio a couple of times now. The last one was with some careful consideration about weighting down answers that I was unsure about, I still got 96% with 19 agreements and 6 disagreements.

We both seem to like security, not making things too easy for illegal immigrants or welfare recipients and we seem to agree on moral issues. Stuff that places me on the conservative side of the Norwegian political spectrum.
