I can't tell if he's evil, or just stupid. He's probably a little bit of both.

He seems generically religious as if he doesn't really care if it's Christianity or Islam or simply his own version. Obama's true religious roots rather than encounters with Islam during his childhood ?

I think his roots led him there and that is why he was so comfortable there for 20 years..and would have remained, no doubt, if it had not been exposed.

I think the analogy that Rev. Wright is driving at is that Jesus was to the Roman Empire as today's Palestinians are to Europeans. In both cases, the weaker of the two was abused by the stronger.

The analogy falls a bit short as Jesus taught his followers not to resist their oppressors, whereas today's Palestinians actively do so.

Luke 22:35 Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?”
    “Nothing,” they answered.
36 He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.
37 It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.”

And that is the ONLY passage in the entire NT that even remotely alludes to violence...all the rest say love your enemies, do good to them that despitefully use you...and Jesus Himself telling Peter to put away his sword because those who live by it die by it...and then there was His words, paraphrased, My kingdom is not of this world. If it were my disciples would have freed me..

No I don't understand Jesus' words there except that HE may have just been saying be prepared to DEFEND yourself but even then that has to be weighed with the above..

That's how I see it anyway.

The context is apparently the times coming after he leaves them. Which ties in with Paul's talking about how proper authorities carry the sword in order to punish the wrongdoer and honor the one who does what is right.

Where it falls even shorter is that Jesus is Jewish.
