I don't know, if they're so well financed why didn't they find someone smarter than AOC as well as people who were capable of composing a document that didn't sound so ridiculously stupid. Or are you saying that they're rich and powerful and stupid too?

I think she won her district by a fluke, through identity politics, not because of her "platform" and was immediately purchased.

You may have a point there . I remember back in 06 when the Dems won congress . The thought of Pelosi becoming speaker scared the daylight out of me likewise Obama becoming president

Now those two look like moderates meaning the center has now shifted to something which would have been considered extreme a few years back

The Bernie Sanders type wasn't around that I knew of, only 10 years ago. Both he and Ocasio-Cortez are members of the Democratic Socialist party and their program says that they want all businesses to be run by the government. That's basic Communism and corresponds to the very marginal Red party here in Norway.

Colonel, respectfully, I don't believe that Bernie Sanders wants "all businesses to be run by the government." Although he calls himself a socialist, he has never been a member of an organized socialist party, as far as I know. (In particular, he's not a member of the "Democratic Socialists of America".)

Bernie Sanders would be considered mainstream in nations like Sweden, Norway, and Germany.

Despite his age, Mr. Sanders remains (in my mind) the best candidate in the field for 2020.

But you might be right about AOC; I don't know much about her.

What's amazing about AOC is her skill at getting media attention. As P.T. Barnum is alleged to have said (and as Donald Trump has proven), "there's no such thing as bad publicity!"

In that case the article I read was wrong. Or possibly I misread it because Sanders was termed "a Democratic Socialist" in the same article. Which could have been obfuscation on purpose - even though he does in fact refer to himself as that. The party that Ocasio-Cortez is a member of has that as a part of its program, that all businesses should either be run by the state or as cooperatives.

    From their own page :

    https://www.dsausa.org/about-us/what...ocialism/#govt

"Social ownership could take many forms, such as worker-owned cooperatives or publicly owned enterprises managed by workers and consumer representatives. Democratic socialists favor as much decentralization as possible. While the large concentrations of capital in industries such as energy and steel may necessitate some form of state ownership, many consumer-goods industries might be best run as cooperatives. Democratic socialists have long rejected the belief that the whole economy should be centrally planned. While we believe that democratic planning can shape major social investments like mass transit, housing, and energy, market mechanisms are needed to determine the demand for many consumer goods.

In the short term we can't eliminate private corporations, but we can bring them under greater democratic control. The government could use regulations and tax incentives to encourage companies to act in the public interest and outlaw destructive activities such as exporting jobs to low-wage countries and polluting our environment. Public pressure can also have a critical role to play in the struggle to hold corporations accountable. Most of all, socialists look to unions to make private business more accountable."

Bernie Sanders would be considered mainstream in Europe because they tend to look at short term goals rather than at basic ideology. He might not fit the 2% Red party here in Norway but he would fit the 6% "Socialistic leftists" neatly.
