Democrat Admits: Her Bill 'Would Allow' Abortion during Labor

A Virginia Democratic House member acknowledged under questioning this week that her bill would legalize unrestricted abortion through all 40 weeks of pregnancy, even if the woman is dilated and in labor.

The bill, HB 2491, was defeated in committee, but not before its sponsor, Delegate Kathy Tran, answered detailed questions in a video that has gone viral. The bill would have removed most restrictions to late-term abortions.

Tran's bill permitted third-trimester abortions if a pregnancy threatened a woman's life or "impair[ed] the mental or physical health" of the woman. At least one doctor would have to certify those conditions. The bill would have removed the current requirement that three doctors agree that late-term abortion is required.

Such loopholes have been interpreted broadly by courts to permit abortion for virtually any reason.

"How late in the third trimester could a physician perform an abortion if he indicated it would impair the mental health of the woman?" GOP Delegate and committee chairman Todd Gilbert asked Tran.

"Through the third trimester," Tran responded. "The third trimester goes all the way up to 40 weeks. ... I don't think we have a limit in the bill."

Gilbert then pressed her: "Where it's obvious that a woman is about to give birth – she has physical signs that she's about to give birth. Would that still be a point at which she could request an abortion? ... She's dilating."

Dilation is one stage of a woman's labor.

"Mr. Chairman," Tran responded, "that would be a decision that the doctor – the physician – and the women would make at that point.

"I understand that," Gilbert said. "I'm asking if your bill allows that."

"My bill would allow that. Yes," Tran answered.

The pro-life group Live Action said Tran did not want to acknowledge the bill's ramifications.

"It's obvious from the video that Tran is uneasy admitting that the bill would allow a woman to request an abortion while she is in active labor with a viable baby," the Live Action said. "Perhaps that's because she knows as well as anyone else how absolutely horrific and inhumane – and utterly and wholly unnecessary – that would be."

    R. Albert Mohler Jr. president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary tweeted: "God, help us. Virginia bill would legalize abortion up to birth. This is the most chilling testimony from a legislator I have ever seen."

After New York passed its law removing abortion restrictions, OB/GYN Dr. Omar L. Hamada made headlines by asserting third-trimester abortions are never necessary.

"I want to clear something up so that there is absolutely no doubt. I'm a Board Certified OB/GYN who has delivered over 2,500 babies," he wrote. "There's not a single fetal or maternal condition that requires third-trimester abortion. Not one. Delivery, yes. Abortion, no."

Northam on Abortion Bill: Infant Could Be Delivered and Then 'Physicians and the Mother' Could Decide If It Lives

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D.) commented Wednesday about a controversial 40-week abortion bill and in so doing said the law allows an abortion to take place after the infant's birth.

"If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that's what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother," Northam said, alluding to the physician and mother discussing whether the born infant should live or die....

'He Took an Oath!': Judge Nap Slams VA Gov Northam Over Late-Term Abortion Bill
    https://insider.foxnews.com/2019/01/...-abortion-bill

Fox News senior judicial analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano slammed Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam (D) for defending a proposed state law that would allow women to terminate a pregnancy up to the moment before birth....

...On "Fox & Friends" Thursday morning, Napolitano said that scenario would be "murder."

"He took an oath as the governor of Virginia to preserve the Constitution which requires equal protection for all human beings. They can't decide to let the baby die because of its age! That's a crime!" Napolitano said.

Host Steve Doocy pointed out that if a pregnant woman is murdered, it's considered a double homicide, and he asked what rights the unborn have.

"The court refuses to decide when personhood attaches," Napolitano said. "This is not an academic question, because if the baby in the womb is a person then that person is protected by Fifth Amendment, which says no person can lose life, liberty or property without due process."...

....He added that Trump is exactly right in saying that this would "lift up the whole pro-life movement like maybe it's never been lifted up before."

Laura Ingraham also weighed in on the abortion debate in her powerful "Angle" monologue on Wednesday, saying the Virginia bill is "absolutely barbaric and sick."

"The infanticide movement -- always cynically disguised as 'reproductive health' -- it's spreading," Ingraham said.

She noted that a similar New York bill was given a standing ovation as it was signed into law last week.

"This isn't America. This is the Democrat Party decomposing for all to see."

Statistics on abortion views in the US are very consistent across the last several decades.

    https://news.gallup.com/poll/1576/abortion.aspx

Here are the may 2018 numbers :

    First trimester abortions :
    Yes : 60 %
    No : 34 %

    Second trimester abortions :
    Yes : 28%
    No : 65%

    Third trimester abortions :
    Yes : 13%
    No : 81%

The numbers differ very little from the ones from 1996.

It's abundantly clear that the Democrats' pressing on for later and later term abortion rights is not consistent with the wishes of the American voters.
