Trump at 36 percent approval among African-Americans, new poll finds

-Even as cable news networks debate reports of the existence of a recording of President Donald Trump using a racial slur, a new poll from Rasmussen Reports says that the president's approval rating among African-Americans is at 36 percent, nearly double his support at this time last year.

"Today's @realDonaldTrump approval ratings among black voters: 36%," Rasmussen said in a tweet. "This day last year: 19%."

That is a staggeringly high number for a man who only won 8 percent of the African-American vote in 2016.

It is even more unexpected given the president's rocky history on matters related to race, including his current nasty feud with former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman, who has alleged Trump said "n word" on the set of the reality-TV show "The Apprentice."

Conservatives celebrated the poll as a sign of trouble for Democrats in upcoming elections.

Charlie Kirk, the founder of the conservative campus group Turning Point USA, cited the poll as evidence that Trump "is breaking the Democrat party as we know it."

"Trump's Black Approval is at 36%," Kirk tweeted. "If I was a Democrat I would be terrified. And it's only going to get worse for them."

A post on Fox News host Sean Hannity's blog cheered the apparent increase in support, which defies the "non-stop media attacks...

Well a lot of blacks don't swallow the 'company line' about conservatives and Trump specifically. And many of them see the liberal side for what it is, and that it really doesn't act in their best interests but actually exploits them. And they're also seeing what Trump is doing for the economy, etc, instead of just empty promises by liberals and programs to keep blacks attached to the government teat. Trump isn't any more racist or bigoted than any other white OR black person. It's just the way things are reported that if the same thing had been said/done by a liberal, it wouldn't have even been reported or covered extensively. Example, the immigrant kids on their face locked up behind a fence and the outrage at Trump, until it was discovered the pic came from the Obama regime. And I know that I'm probably racist or bigoted for even posting what I did here.

I don’t know.. call me doubtful. Most of the blacks I see posting on Facebook & the ones I know are very anti Trump or they are completely silent.

Did you see the way the black community rose up against the black pastors that met with him?

I’m not 100% sure why, but I believe that almost all black people believe he’s racist. I have not seen the proof though. I don’t know why they feel so strongly about this.

You saw the backlash against the pastor that you mentioned below and wonder why those that approve of Trump stay silent? It's no wonder.

That's just the social media community. It appears much bigger than it is. And it's always liberal dominated. It scares people, but it shouldn't.

I really don't think almost all do. Like I said, they're just silent due to the climate.

Really? The vast majority of my FB friends of color are not only pro-Trump but pretty vocal about it too. I'm actually surprised that those poll numbers aren't higher.

I Find this poll difficult to believe but that said methinks he will do better among black folks in 2020 than he did in 2016

Was actually pleasantly surprised that he got 13 percent of the black male vote in 2016 . It's our black sisters like FO who keep pulling the country back

    They only gave him 4%
