John McCain is in Arizona receiving treatment for brain cancer and he’s not expected back in the United States Senate.

However, that doesn’t mean that McCain is staying out of politics while he rests and receives treatment.

Quite the opposite. In fact, McCain has been doubling down on his beef with Trump over the last few days and he even recently took a shot at his one time running mate Gov. Sarah Palin.

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he regrets choosing former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) to be his running mate during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The New York Times reported on Saturday that McCain, while still defending Palin’s performance, said in his upcoming book, “The Restless Wave: Good Times, Just Causes, Great Fights, and other Appreciations,” that he wishes he had instead selected former Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.)

His advisers reportedly had warned against choosing Lieberman, who was once a Democrat, stating that Lieberman’s support of abortion rights could divide Republicans.

If McCain actually thinks Joe Lieberman was the reason he didn’t win the election then he clearly wasn’t paying attention.

John Nolte wrote a fantastic piece of at Breitbart summing up just how preposterous McCain’s comment was.

McCain’s public expression of regret against Palin comes off as ungracious, as well as further proof that he still does not understand why his own presidential campaign failed.

What makes McCain’s statement seem especially gratuitous is that is makes absolutely no sense.

Polling proves beyond doubt that the only time the hapless McCain campaign came within striking distance of Obama was after Palin came onboard. Her outsider status, populist bona fides, charisma, willingness to fight, and ability to capture the heart of a Republican base (that never embraced McCain), was the only chance the mercurial senator, who seemed to bask in the glow of media acclaim whenever he stabbed one of his own in the back, ever had.

Choosing Lieberman, who had already lost as a Democrat in that same role six years earlier, would have been a disaster, just more proof that McCain’s judgment was erratic, his “maverick” status a narcissistic pose, his conservatism a joke. While Joe Lieberman seems like a decent man, at the time, McCain was a 72-year-old cancer survivor. Choosing a far-left Democrat as his successor would have been seen as a gimmick fueled by desperation and therefore just more proof that McCain lacked the prudence to sit in the big chair.

Nolte goes on to explain how McCain mismanaged the campaign in a variety of different ways and there’s no doubt that Palin is an incredibly popular figure in conservative circles to this day.

Nolte was not only correct to point out that Palin has refused to criticize McCain over the years but as recently as 2017 she was openly praising him.

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, the running mate of John McCain in the 2008 presidential election, reacted on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to the news of the Arizona senator’s brain cancer diagnosis.

“He is a fighter,” she said, adding she believes Sen. McCain will soon remind everyone to “use hardship as fuel to endure” in this trying time.

Palin said personal loyalty is rare today in politics, but Sen. McCain has “embodied loyalty” toward her family.

“If I were going to war, I wouldn’t just want him on my side, I’d want him leading the charge,” said Palin.

Surely Gov. Palin didn’t agree with everything that McCain did politically following the 2008 race. McCain has infuriated conservatives everywhere for years now and we all remember how McCain campaigned to get rid of Obamacare and then cast the deciding vote to save Obamacare simply because Trump said something he didn’t like.

I think it’s sad that McCain is about to step into eternity on a bitter note. He needs serious prayer. The man simply hasn’t gotten over Trumps remarks about him and he seems to be angry at Conservatives when it was he who was responsible for his failure to win the Presidency.

Actually, the Holy Spirit spoke to me as soon as McCain introduced Sarah Palin...But him choosing her made me more willing. :)
