Thread: Connecticut Governor: The NRA Has Become a 'Terrorist Organization'

Connecticut Gov. Dannel Malloy said that the National Rifle Association has evolved into a "terrorist organization."

Malloy, a Democrat who declined to make a run at a third term this year, made the remarks on Monday, according to FOX-61.

Malloy said the Fairfax, Va.-based Second Amendment organization is today a "far cry" from what it was even 20 years ago.

The NRA itself is 146 years old, its first president being Civil War Gen. Ambrose Burnside, who later became a Republican senator from Rhode Island.

Malloy said that in 1999 - the same year as the Columbine High School shooting - the NRA declared that teachers should not be armed.

"In the 90s, [the NRA] said we should have universal background checks," Malloy lamented.

"They have in essence become a terrorist organization," he said.

Elsewhere in Hartford, the capital city's mayor said it is "ridiculous" for the NRA to claim to be a "voice for gun safety."

"If the NRA had its way, we wouldn't have [gun] permitting," Democrat Luke Bronin said.

NRA official Jennifer Baker told FOX-61 that voters are "fed up with politicians who engage in political stunts and childish name-calling rather than serious policy discussions."

Baker said the NRA's pistol shooting course is the "best training available for anyone seeking to carry a concealed firearm for self-protection."

"Public safety isn't improved by eliminating the NRA training and standards... or calling people who disagree with you 'terrorists'," she said.

On "Tucker Carlson Tonight," NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch said many on the left "don't understand individuals who are Second Amendment practitioners."

"They don't understand Middle America," she said.

The NRA is a coalition of citizens seeking to inform, protect and maintain our constitutional rights for all citizens.

This demonization of the NRA is getting on my last nerve. I was sitting next to a woman who kept going on and on about the NRA. I ignored it. But then she said, "The NRA won't be happy until they put guns in the hands of toddlers" I mean, c'mon!
