Jay Leno's Scorching Message to Late Night Hosts who won't stop Bashing Trump

There’s nothing original about comedians bashing Trump. It’s low hanging fruit. Anyone can make a cheap Trump joke for a quick laugh. Comedy should be brave and edgy and all the late night comedians who bash Trump with lame jokes are the opposite of that.

Don’t take my word for it. Take it from one of the most beloved comics to ever live.

    From Daily Wire:

The last of these former late-night hosts, Jay Leno, senses an imbalance in the comedy Force. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Leno declared that late-night comedy has devolved into a “depressing” anti-Trump bashfest that deadens the intellect and leaves our escapist passions wanting.

“Late-night has always been pretty topical,” Leno said. “The only trouble is now everyone has the same topic. It’s all depressing Trump stuff.”

    Nailed it.

Nothing wrong with a few Trump jokes but it’s just gotten ridiculous. Why in the world do comedians insist on alienating half of the country the way they are. What makes it even worse is that the jokes aren’t funny.

If comedians really wanted to be brave they would go after Democrats and go after the media. They would think of creative ways to go after people that no one else does and push the boundaries.

    What ever happened to originality?

Dave Chapelle made a similar comment to Leno’s recently.

    From Daily Wire:

Discussing some of his contemporaries still in the field, Chappelle brought up President Trump. “But the whole Trump things makes it harder for comedians,” he said.

“He’s so skewed, it’s hard to find an angle that sounds fresh,” he added. “If you talk about him, it’s almost like you’re part of the chorus and not a soloist.”

In his new Netflix special, Chappelle rarely takes on Trump. This separates the comic from the “chorus” of Trump-ripping comedians currently dominating the culture.

    Excellent.

Roseanne also joined Leno on this topic.

    From Fox News:

Good for Jay, Dave, and Rosanne. Glad they haven’t backed down, or back pedaled on their comments; and the fact that Miss Barr is having her new show’s character be a Trump supporter, is really stepping out there. Kudos to all three.

Yep, nailed it. I used to regularly watch those late night shows but don't anymore, there's nothing fresh about the topics and the "jokes" are really lame.

Roseanne Barr defended her support for President Trump and her choice to make her sitcom character a Trump supporter in the upcoming “Roseanne” revival heading to ABC in March.

Barr said making her sitcom counterpart a Trump supporter made sense for the show about a working-class American family.

    “It’s just realistic,” she explained.

    Good for her.

Colbert is the worst. His whole show including guests is basically about bashing Trump. And he's very vulgar and disrespectful with it too. I would NEVER watch him.

The thing is though from what I've read it increases everybody's ratings. If I read correctly awhile back Colbert beats Fallon and the Tonight show because he does bash Trump so much. Colbert wins in total viewers but Fallon leads in the key demographic of 18-49.

I watched Colbert some before the election but now I don't watch any of the late night shows. I caught Colbert's monologue the other night and it was just pathetic.

I watched part of Letterman's new show on Netflix last night. Obama was the guest. O pretty much said people who watch Fox news live on another planet.

Very funny! Maybe Trump missed his calling and should be a comedian.

That was good...but this is still one of my favorites with all the commentary by those show hosts.

I watched his show one night only because Jerry Seinfeld was a guest. I was sorry I watched. Colbert asked Seinfeld if he still had respect for Bill Cosby. Seinfeld responded, "can't I still respect him for his body of work?" Colbert said "no", because of the sexual assault accusations. Jerry then back pedaled and agreed with Colbert.

I can't count the number of times Seinfeld credited Cosby for his own brand of comedy and how Cosby was his main inspiration for getting into the business. He wimped out, so now I have little respect for Seinfeld.
