The Lonely lives of SF Bay Area conservatives (article)

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...-conservatives

... Some fear losing their jobs while others worry they'll be ostracized by colleagues. (That's in a sector where 76 percent of technical jobs are held by men, and blacks and Latinos make up only 5 percent of the workforce.) Adding to the stress is Silicon Valley's penchant for open floor plans, which make it hard to tune out an officemate on a rant, and the way companies encourage workers to socialize and bring their whole selves to their job.

Several tech workers said they don't post about politics on Facebook, where they're friends with many coworkers. "My wife is very paranoid about me sharing my opinion, even on private WhatsApp groups with my friends," said a former Amazon engineer who now works at Oracle. Most employees who spoke asked not to be identified because they worried about their job security.

Yep, but that is not just there...I am sure it is more pronounced there though...but this is the nature of our culture in the US now....speech is still free but the dominant culture shift is suppression of conservatives...and yes there was a time when the dominant voice suppressed liberals.....

But the scriptures told us it would be this way ....America is no different, it is made up of humans that for the most part choose the wide path....no matter how conservative our founding fathers may have been, we have been on a snowball down hill ever since our founding...it's just that we conservatives now realize how big that snowball has gotten and how fast it is now moving...

In my previous job the financial administrative portion of employees were predominantly conservative...the creative portion was either liberal or silent....

I work for a large university where I got ganged up on for admitting that I voted for Bush (in 2000) Needless to say, I keep my mouth shut.

We need to add "political affiliation" to the list of categories for which discrimination (in employment and in places of public accommodation) is prohibited under the law.

However, personally speaking, I don't believe it is wise to bring up politics in the workplace.

Politics, social issues, religion, all TABOO ....that is suppression of free speech...not illegal but definitely oppressive...intimidating...and more and more part of our culture..and not just on the job, in the store, at the park....anywhere...

A FB friend of mine was defending trigger warnings and "safe places" on campus for offended students. I ask her if that meant she supported them for conservative students and evangelical Christians. She actually said yes. Go figure. But wouldn't that be ironic? Setting aside safe places on campus for Christians. Ha.
