Charles Barkley: Most Black People Haven't Thought a Day in Their Lives About Confederate Statues

Basketball superstar Charles Barkley called pushing for the removal of Confederate statues "wasted energy."

"I'm not going to waste my time screaming at a neo-Nazi who's gonna hate me no matter what," the NBA Hall of Famer told WRBC-TV in Birmingham, Alabama.

"I'm 54 years old," Barkley said. "I've never thought about those statues a day in my life. I think if you ask most black people, to be honest, they ain't thought a day in their life about those stupid statues."

Barkley has not minced words when pointing out what he sees as his black community's problems, such as last year when he spoke about violence against cops.

"The cops have made some mistakes. Black people have made some mistakes," Barkley said. "That don't give us the right to riot and shoot cops. We need the cops, especially in the black community. We as black people, we've got to do better."

The sports legend said the black community must worry about education, economic opportunity, and "stop killing each other."

"You know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna keep doing great things," Barkley concluded. "I'm gonna keep trying to make a difference — No. 1, in the black community, 'cause I'm black — but I'm also gonna try to do good things in the world."

This business of evaluating historical figures by today's moral mores is a slippery slope and hypocritical one at that if you ask me

Bap that is the main issue or should be...I was thinking about the thread where the guy is upset that more white evangelicals are not calling out white supremacists, but are, rather, calling out racism....yet never cites any Biblical truths like Jesus' words, love your enemies and do good to them that despitefully use you'

Racism is the deeper more relevant issue...and encompasses white supremacists....not all racists are white supremacists...

But on the issue of Charlottesville there is an even more significant problem..the jutificaion of violence and criminal behavior against ANYONE we disagree with.

The more I ponder Dr King's message the more I realize HE GOT THIS..change is a good thing...hate and violence never are good no matter what good change we hope to achieve.

Evangelicals, white AND black understand the message of Jesus and refuse to be baited....I am pretty sure there are quite a few black evangelical pastors who are not taking this side he promoted either.

I watched an old Blue Bloods episode last night...an undercover guy was in a park on surveillance...he was trying to tell his back up where he was...he said I am beside a pool and there is a stature of some soldier guy behind me...I believe truth be known, that is how most would respond....

This statue thing is noting more than a ploy and the fact that the city council proposed removing it and suddenly they are inundated by white nationalists out of no where? LOL

Slavery was in the Americas 200 years before Wasghington was even born . There was salvery in Africa, Slavery in Europe , Slavery in Asia , In the Americas and slavery was just the way the world was for many millenia. Nobody had any moral issues with its. Thats just the way it was

I have always credited the founding fathers and the abolitionists for being the among the first generation to question it's morality in the abstract and actually start taking steps towards ending it. To my knowledge no other people or culture ever did that.

Even in Africa , slavery persisted well beyond 1865 and it was actually European colonialists who put an end to it in many cases.

Suffice to say that listening to modern day activists Like Angela Rye sanctimoniously shrill about taking down monuments to the likes of Washington without any sense of context or proportion is a bit much but yet some folks want to tell us to learn from history when they apparently lack the wherewithal to properly assess and evaluate History themselves

Truth is no culture is 100% morally clean and if we get into this business of indiscriminate monument razing we will have nothing standing at the end of the day not even each other because we would have torn ourselves up through strife

Exactly the message of Dr. MLK...darkness imploding in on itself...

What if these leaders said this, "“Now there is a final reason I think that Jesus says, "Love your enemies." It is this: that love has within it a redemptive power. And there is a power there that eventually transforms individuals. Just keep being friendly to that person. Just keep loving them, and they can’t stand it too long. Oh, they react in many ways in the beginning. They react with guilt feelings, and sometimes they’ll hate you a little more at that transition period, but just keep loving them. And by the power of your love they will break down under the load. That’s love, you see. It is redemptive, and this is why Jesus says love. There’s something about love that builds up and is creative. There is something about hate that tears down and is destructive. So love your enemies. (from "Loving Your Enemies")”

And the "man after God's own heart", king David, looked upon the black wife of a loyal, valiant man of color, took her, impregnated her, tried to cover it up, and when that failed, murdered her husband. Yes, God forgave him, but look what happened to his children. Seems that's what's happening in the black community (20,000,000 black babies, burned, liquified, and dismembered in the womb). Do we really believe the white man is our problem? I think not!

I don't condone slavery, never have, and I know that not ALL slave owners were evil people. Yet as far as I'm concerned, American slavery was the WORST because of how it began, the brutality of it had lasting effects.

That said, we have had ample time to recover. With all of America's faults; slavery, lynchings, Jim Crow, etc., its been proven over and over and over that we can rise above the devastation. We have so many examples of black Americans who have proven that nothing can stop us but ourselves.

After all that's been done, we haven't been wiped out, still we rise; especially those of us that will put God first and rely on His righteousness to set things right.

Like the Psalmist says, "I've not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging bread." (37:25)

What has happened is that we (and I know most of America have, but I'm specifically speaking of black Americans), have forsaken the God of our ancestors who relied on Him, trusted Him, and rejoiced in Him even while they were in bondage. God heard their cries and just like the Hebrew slaves of old, He put an IMPERFECT man in the White House (Sound familiar?), and used him to end American Slavery. God chose Donald Trump for His purpose, and since His ways and thoughts are higher than ours, we need to pray and seek Him for truth, instead of these idiotic knee jerk reactions to lies and deceptions from the MSM.

There is no excuse not to succeed in America. Foreigners come here from all over the world and succeed because of their determination and hard work. We (black voters) elected politicians that care nothing for us and pander to the lazy and the greedy among us.

The LBJ plan to enslave us with freebies so that the grandsons of slave owners could enslave the descendants of slaves once again with a new kind of slavery, has caused much of the issues we face today, yet we continue to play the blame game and elected these deceivers instead of looking within.

I'm so fed up with the IGNORANCE of many black Americans who continue to feed on the deception propagated by Democrats with their socialist/progressive agenda. But I'm particularly perplexed by black Christians who can't (or won't) discern the trickery of the enemy who is using the same tactics he's always used to divide and conquer.

How black Christians can continue to listen to and believe the lies/deceptions of the liberal media is simply mind boggling to say the least. And to not even listen to reason or just take the time to pray, research other outlets, and listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit, is to my mind, plain ignorance. That's the kindest way I know how to put it.

I only listened to half of the discussion in the video because I immediately saw where it was going. More propaganda nonsense from the Left in their attempt to brainwash the public with lies and twisted logic.

They're twisting the President's words to purposely keep the country divided. It's a tactic they use so that the uninformed will continue to focus on what they erroneously perceive as racism against groups of people. It's why I don't watch News on stations like CNN.

I've said it once and I say it again, those that CHOOSE to remain deceived will suffer the most.
