Well, I think it's hilarious when you hear people teach that God only chooses a few folks to get saved... and you never hear anyone with that position say "and, I was one that did not get chosen, so I'm on my way to hell"

I know for me personally... I must be special cause I heard the gospel, I believed, and got saved... and I use the power of the Word of God and the Holy Spirit to REFUSE to turn away from the Lord. I am a veteran of many satanic wars the forces of darkness have launched against my soul for my very soul.

That was early on during the first years of being a Christian and since that time Jesus has shared with me the things He did to take God's Word and beat the devil with it so hard, he leaves until he thinks there is a better time to attack... and when he comes back I beat him again with God's Holy, all powerful, victorious Word!

So, I have learned to rest from the fight and let God's Word fight for me... all I do is stand on it, speak it, act it... and REFUSE to quit.

If a man is faithful God will make him stand... to hell with the devil!

I'm sure I've heard more ridiculous arguments, but I can't think of one right now.

The point is that ONLY those who are saved even have an inkling of what they're saved from.

We're born runnning away from God. it's only when He intervenes and gives us eyes to see, ears to hear and a soft heart towards Him to yield. We never persue Him. We only respond to Him.

HE starts the work in our hearts. We do nothing but respond. It's HIS work alone.

    Philippians 1:
3 Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.
4 Whenever I pray, I make my requests for all of you with joy,
5 for you have been my partners in spreading the Good News about Christ from the time you first heard it until now.
6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Actually, I did meet a man who says he knows he was not "chosen" and was on his way to hell. He used that excuse to sin up a storm. Sad.

    key word "excuse"

which makes one think he didn't really believe anything.

Well...why not? How do you know he isn't right (based on Calvinist doctrine).

Because of the Bookie doctrine. "The free will of man is God's way of working out His predetermined plan." For someone to say no to Christ is to choose death over life. This man was basically admitting that to not be chosen by God was his choice.

Does that mean that it was God's Will, God's Choice, for him to NOT choose Christ?

Did God withhold that from, or refuse to enable, him?
This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity (futility) of their mind, having the understanding darkened...
    (Ephesians 4:17-18)

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly...
    (Psalm 1)

He (the man) chose. I like the analogy someone else has thought up. It's like driving on the highway of life and there's an off-ramp with a sign that says "Whosoever will may come." Then as you take that off-ramp and look back, the other side of the sign says "chosen from the foundation of the world."

Sounds good, but that doesn't answer the question.

Bookie.. I've heard it a bit differently.

On the outside of the house of God the sign over the door says "whosoever will, come"
The sign on the inside over the door says "By God's grace, chosen from the foundation of the world"

I like them both. AND, it makes the point. Our perspective is we're making a choice. We freely admit our sin and recognize Jesus is our only way to be reconciled to the Father.. But, once we're part of God's family, we realize, people don't choose to be born, God does that.. but they become self aware and realize they are born.. and love God for it and are thankful every day. Every minute of every day.
