White House cancels Obama meeting with Philippines leader after Rodrigo Détente lashes out at Obama

    Story highlights
    • Obama will be meeting with the South Korea President instead
    • Duterte says he is "not answerable to anyone except the Filipino people"

(CNN)The White House on Monday canceled President Obama's upcoming meeting with Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte.

This comes after Duterte lashed out at Obama for wading into the issue of the Philippines' leader's controversial policy toward drug dealers.

Obama and Duterte had been set to meet in Laos this week, where Obama is attending a meeting of Southeast Asian leaders.

White House officials previously said Obama would confront the Philippines President about his country's handling of drug dealers, including extra-judicial killings, or government executions without the benefit of judicial proceedings or due process.

But the Filipino leader did not take kindly to that notion, saying Obama had better think twice about raising the issue of the killings.

"Who does he think he is? I am no American puppet. I am the president of a sovereign country and I am not answerable to anyone except the Filipino people," Duterte scoffed in a speech Monday. "Son of a b****, I will swear at you."

Obama instead will meet on Tuesday with President Park Geun-hye of South Korea.

Duterte went on to blame the US for causing the unrest on the southern Philippines Island of Mindanao.

"As a matter of fact, we inherited this problem from the United States," he said. "Why? Because they invaded this country and made us their subjugated people.

Everybody has a terrible record of extra-judicial killing. Why make an issue about fighting crime?"

He added: "Look at the human rights of America along that line. The way they treat the migrants there."

It is understandable for Obama not to go.

Yet I wonder if it isn't Obama's own egomania that keeps him from going. A world leader can criticize, condemn, speak hate about America, the American people, or the same about our allies, and he visits them. But speak evil of him and he cancels the visit.

You guys know I'm not an Obama supporter at all, but I'm looking forward to the day when he's out of office, so the name-calling can stop. It's just crass, rude and unprofessional to call any head of state a SOB, in my humble opinion.

Also, I'm soooo tired of the *Give the Monkey-President a Banana* jokes, cartoons, etc. etc. etc.

    Is it November 8th yet?

We Hired A Native Tagalog Speaker: Here’s What The Filipino Prez REALLY Said

The next line is addressed to the reporter who asked the question, not to Obama as the media is claiming:

You must be respectful. Do not just throw away questions and statements. Putangina (son of a bitch) I will curse you in that forum.”

As a clarification, Duterte is referring to reporters who are not respectful and are throwing questions at him that are not on topic.

It's the pot calling the kettle black. President Obama has no right to admonish another nation's leader about murdering their guilty citizens when our nation murders it's innocent, tiny citizens by the thousands every month. The gall of this man. I'm with Rom828?...Is it November 8th yet?
