VA Governor Restores Voting Rights to Felons...

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/vo...lons-mcauliffe

Believe it or not, I'm one of the 13,000 people who just had my voting rights restored by our Governor. My signed, sealed, Certificate arrived in the mail yesterday.

Yep, I was found guilty of a felon - When I was 19, I was in the wrong place, at the wrong time, and definitely with the wrong people.

While I never spent time in prison, and walked away with a stern warning from the Judge (Thank-you Jesus!), I still had a "criminal record" which (among other things), affected my ability to apply for some amazing and lucrative job opportunities, - Sin certainly has its consequences.

I'm excited that I will be able to serve on a jury and vote again, However, I won't be voting for Trump or Clinton.

I will definitely go to the polls, but I will "Write-In" the name of one of the other Republican candidates.

I didn't read your link but I had read the story yesterday. It appears the governor kind of did a 'wholesale' pardon of about 200k originally, with his motive being making sure the state votes for Hillary (due to the majority being black). But they are supposed to be reviewed on a case by case basis, so they had to go back and do that and it came down to 13k.

    Congrats!!!

13,000 so far - I think he is still reviewing them, and it's possible more "pardons" will be issued before the filing deadline to register for the November election.

Oh, and I totally realize this is a ploy to get out more "Democratic-leaning" votes, but ya know, I'll take the pardon nonetheless.

Have you thought about getting the felony itself pardoned too? Seems the Gov is in a generous mood. ;)

    Congratulations!

I have always believed that once a person has served his or her time (if any),
he or she should have all rights restored, including the right to vote.

Wait till conservatives get control of the statehouse and impeach the governor for acting unilaterally... he's part of the clinton bunch so he thinks he is a dictator and can do as he pleases and go around the legislature.

He'll pay for that by either being impeached or voted out of office.

There's a reason why convicted felons should not vote... and do other things law abiding citizens can do. If there is no penalty for being a law breacker, then the rule of law is destroyed and the nation collapses.

Of course this is what is going to happen anyway, so it's all a moot point.

I disagree. I think anyone who has served their time should be allowed to vote.

Once a felon has served their time and paid for their particular crimes, they should be no different than you or I. I know that there are things I did in my youth that could have landed me in jail, but fortunately I didn't end up on that path.

The penalty for being a law breaker is satisfied when one serves their sentence. To hold their crimes against them for the rest of their life would be like you and I without Jesus. We would still be sinners headed for an eternity in Hell.

The word of God tells us that we need to be agents of God's grace, freely giving what we have received. Peter called it being good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Also, I believe that once a person has served their time, he or she should not be denied employment based on the past crime. Otherwise, it will be impossible for that person to re-integrate into society, and that person will be more likely to return to a life of crime.

So a child molester that has served their time should be allowed to work at a day care? :)
