Dr. James Dobson - Donald Trump is a Baby Christian

Washington (CNN)Donald Trump is now a born-again Christian, an evangelical leader says, but a top campaign aide declined to comment on that revelation on Sunday.

"He did accept a relationship with Christ," James Dobson, the founder of Focus on the Family, said in a radio interview with on Pennsylvania pastor Michael Anthony's "Godfactor" taped Tuesday. "I know the person who led him to Christ, and that's fairly recent."

Trump does not speak publicly about his faith often, but last week he met with a group of high-profile evangelical leaders in New York.

Dobson told Anthony Trump is a "baby Christian."

"I don't know when it was, but it has not been long," Dobson said. "And I believe he really made a commitment. He's a baby Christian, if you will -- (Christians) need to be praying for him." ...

...Dobson said in the radio interview Trump isn't fluent in the terminology common to evangelicals -- but deserves "some slack."

"He doesn't know our language. You know, we had 40 Christians together with him. He used the word hell four or five times. He doesn't know our language, he really doesn't. And he refers a lot to religion and not much to faith and belief," Dobson said. "You got to cut him some slack, he didn't grow up like we did. I think there's hope for him."

After the meeting with Trump on Tuesday, another evangelical leader, Ralph Reed, said Trump "talked about personal faith, importance of faith."

"But he made it abundantly clear, 'I don't know the Bible as well as you do, I'm not a theologian, but I'm a Christian,'" Reed said. "He talked about his children and how he raised his children, moral values, don't smoke, don't drink, don't do drugs."

Reed added: "It's not really our job to judge other peoples' spiritual journey. Just because they're not in the same place we are, we accept him for who he is now." ...

My guess is that Trump doesn't not believe in God.

A lot of people will be watching his life to see if there are any fruits.

    Try just praying for him.

I don't feel called to be the fruit examiner for Trump. I think it was unwise for Dr D to be relating this information. It's not right to put any baby Christian on the world stage. We had too much of that with tbn over the years.

Praying for him is indeed most important.

"How do I stand the greatest chance of securing the evangelical vote" may be what is going on here. So he says yes to Jesus when told to and tells people that the inner cities should be spiritized.

I would hope not but you may be right. He is friends with Paula White, perhaps she could be a positive influence on him. I am not a fan of PW but will give her the benefit of the doubt.

Have you seen the video where Sylvester Stallone spiritizes his Rocky movie and accepts Jesus Christ while talking to Pat Robertson ? Being a nominal Catholic, talking like that isn't a problem for him.

No. I have heard so much "God talk" over the years from celebrities (secular and Christian) that it is easy for me to be very skeptical. I remember when it came out that Jane Fonda had gotten saved and was attending Bible study. Boy did she back peddle on that.

Yeah, we must be ever mindful of the parable of the Sower. Jesus taught that there would be many who will be gathered and thrown out of His kingdom when it is time for the harvest. We need to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling.
