I'm pretty sure that it's closer to four weeks than five, actually.

Canada announces US tariffs on hold for 30 days

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Monday that proposed 25% tariffs to be levied by the US will be put on hold for 30 days following a phone call with President Trump.

"I just had a good call with President Trump," Trudeau said in a post on X. "Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl. Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.

They never tell you that tariffs have been in place for a long time.

What Canada imposes on US goods ..

Dairy and Poultry: Pre-existing tariffs were already high, with dairy products facing tariffs between 245% to 298%, and poultry at around 238%.

Energy Resources: These are subject to a lower tariff of 10%.

Other Goods: Consumer goods, lumber, and various agricultural products have had pre-existing tariffs, with consumer goods at 30%, lumber at 20%, and certain agricultural goods like fish and tobacco at 100%.
25% is chicken scratch compared to what Canada does. I see why Trump is calling everything "unfair", it's outrageous.

When I lived in Buffalo, the mall parking lots would be littered with clothing every Monday morning, shoes, coats, you name it. Canadians would come across on weekends and buy clothes to avoid tariffs.

Is that supposed to mean that those are the current US tariffs on the mentioned Canadian goods? Or is that "at some point in history" ?

That's what Canada imposes on US goods.

Do you have a source for that?

I tried a Canadian tariff calculator, selected some kind of dairy for export to the US and got $1.1 per kilo. Which is probably over a hundred percent. For import from the US, 3 cents per kilo.
