US Reps. Swalwell, Schiff and Omar Stripped from Their Committees

Check out the Instagram video under the story. New speaker of the house Kevin McCarthy setting a reporter straight.

After his connections to a Chinese spy were exposed years ago, Congressman Eric Swalwell has finally been removed from his dangerous position on the House Intelligence Committee. Rep. Swalwell, who was a vocal, and frankly nasty, critic of former President Donald Trump, found himself involved with a Chinese national, Christine Fang (known as Fang Fang), who had Communist Party connections. He even allowed her access to his office.

    As we told you previously:

Congressman Eric Swalwell was one of the lead protagonists of the impeachment of President Donald Trump, which of course resulted in an acquittal. Now Swalwell himself is caught up in a scandal involving an apparent Chinese agent. That agent not only has ties to the Chinese Communist Party, she actually works for the Chinese Communist Party in their intelligence department.

Unfortunately, at that time, we were disappointed that then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi refused to do anything about Swalwell's inappropriate connections. This was a very serious situation, and Pelosi swept it under the rug.

That's why the ACLJ filed not one, but FOUR Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests to FOUR government agencies – the FBI, the State Department, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, and the National Security Agency (NSA) – demanding all records regarding Swalwell and his relationship with the Chinese national Fang Fang.

Swalwell's position as a member of the House Intelligence Committee granted him access to more classified information than almost any other Member of Congress, while at the same time, he himself was potentially COMPROMISED by a Chinese national. He has been putting our national security at risk.

We sought to expose these connections so Swalwell would lose his access to highly classified information that could potentially fall into the wrong hands due to his compromised position.

However, none of the agencies complied with our FOIAs, and thus we filed two separate lawsuits.

After significant litigation, we started receiving the documents, and the threads began to unravel. Based on the documents we received through our FOIA lawsuits, it's clear that the Deep State was not at all responsive or concerned with the potential threat posed by Swalwell's potentially compromised position, or his dangerous access to sensitive intelligence, even though it was clear that the NSA was aware of the situation.

Now, with new leadership in control of the House, many committee positions have been changed out, courtesy of new Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, who, after an arduous journey to his new post, vowed to remove some extreme Representatives from inappropriate committee posts.

Thankfully, just as we've called for, Rep. Eric Swalwell was one of them. In addition to Swalwell, Rep. Adam Schiff was also removed from the Intelligence Committee (after his continual leaks of national security information) and Rep. Ilhan Omar (who has constantly made antisemitic rants) was removed from the House Foreign Affairs Committee. This was a significant win since we advocated for all three of these radical Left politicians to be removed from committees they have no place being on.

    As reported:

McCarthy confirmed to the Associated Press on Monday that the three would be stripped of their assignments, with Omar being ousted from the Foreign Affairs Committee, while Schiff and Swalwell will be removed from the Intelligence Committee. The move is largely symbolic, as Swalwell is already due to be rotated off his committee, and Omar's assignment is subject to a House vote that would likely be rejected by the GOP majority.

McCarthy first voiced the possibility of removing Democrats from their committee assignments in mid-November, shortly after Republicans won control of the House. He especially hit out against Swalwell and Schiff, accusing the two lawmakers of being untrustworthy.

This is a victory for protecting our national security. Removing Swalwell from his committee chair is a very prudent decision on the part of Speaker McCarthy. We know that China relies on spies and espionage to gain leverage over other nations, and for someone in Swalwell's position to open himself up to such compromise is unacceptable. He cannot be allowed access to highly classified information any longer – especially when he refuses to own up to what everyone else already knows.

With our FOIAs, we set out to expose Swalwell's connections and compromised position at the hands of a Chinese Communist Spy so that he could be removed from the House Intelligence Committee. We have now achieved this goal, in yet another FOIA victory for the ACLJ, and will be closing out our lawsuit against the NSA and several other agencies in this matter, freeing us to focus on new emerging issues.

Your commitment and support make these kinds of victories possible, and our success here just goes to show how powerful your voice through our legal work has become.
